The UK’s First South East Asian ArtsFeast – Curated by Edible Experiences:
There are certain people on the London food scene who manage to inspire and challenge me, who support some wonderful, unusual and talented chefs, supperclubs and food related experiences and who simply contribute in an unassuming but very powerful way to the shape of what is happening. WenLin Soh, founder of Edible Experiences is one such person. I love her mission statement for Edible Experiences

I am, once again, feeling a little guilty because WenLin sent me some information about SEA ArtsFest and the food events of SEA ArtsFeast that are being curated by Edible Experiences a couple of weeks ago. And my intention was to set it up as a preview in plenty of time for you all to go along to the first events on the 5th October. Luckily for all of us, SEA ArtsFest runs through October and November – so although I’m late to the show, I hope no one has missed out!
This preview is focussed on the food events – which you can find out more about and book through the Edible Experience website. But, there are also lectures, films, debates, music and exhibitions. You can find out more on the SEA ArtsFest Site.
As you know I love the School of Wok events and they have a very special evening on 24 October when you can meet Luke Nguyen, Vietnamese celebrity chef and author of ‘The Food of Vietnam’. It’s one not to miss if you are interested in the food of Vietnam – there will be a demonstration by Nguyen himself of some of the recipes in his book.
Or how about one of the Southeast Asian feasts which, as WenLin so eloquantly put it, ‘Pop up like shitake mushrooms in every corner of London on 19th October’.
I’m really tempted by the Table for 10 Vietnamese Supperclub – and I wish I lived a little closer to New Malden where Wild Serai Malaysian Supperclub takes place and you can feast on Chilli Crab and Nyonya fish head curry.
Starting a few days earlier, there’s Malaysian by May – this time focussing on the streetfoods of Malaysia and an event I can personally recommend after a fabulous evening a month or so ago when we feasted in style looking out over the Thames.
For me, the hardest thing is making my mind up which of the wonderful events to go along to! From wine pairing for Asian food to street food, from home cooked Chinese feasts to Vietnam. And all within the M25. Which one would you choose?
