Skiing and Gastronomy – A Marriage Made in St Martin de Belleville:

One of the best-known regions for skiing in the world, the 3 Valleys comprises eight resorts, each with their own unique flavour. Perhaps you’ve already visited Courchevel or Meribel? St Martin de Belleville is in the largest valley of the 3 valleys along with Les Menuires and Val Thoren.

You’ll find it offers some great discounts for early bookings and is competitive for both accommodation and equipment rental.

St Martin de Belleville is famous for its Gastronomy. With its own three-star Michelin restaurant, La Bouitte, you can ski all day then treat yourself to a wonderful meal with a menu based on the excellent produce of the region. The food is so good that many people from other resorts visit here to lunch at the home slope restaurants of the Loy, the Chardon Bleu and the Corbeleys.

The 3 Valleys offers a wonderful range of skiing options – and with guaranteed snow cover throughout the season you’ll never be bored. A single 3 Valleys ski pass provides access to 330 downhill pistes, 120km of cross-country skiing tracks and the 183 ski lifts across the 3 Valleys. Basing your winter holiday at St Martin de Belleville means you can easily take advantage of the whole region. But, for anyone who wants to stay local, there are plenty of options too. For experts there are large areas of off-piste, while there are plenty of blue and red runs for those with a little less experience. And there’s a small nursery slope for beginners too.

Want to snowboard or cross country ski? There’s space for snowboarders just above the village and a total of 28km of trails for cross-country skiers.

St Martin de Belleville is a traditional Savoyard village. Although you’ll find all the benefits of a top class ski resort, it’s in the picture postcard setting of an authentic village dating back to Roman times. The old stone church hosts regular concerts and you can even stay in an old farmhouse.

If you tire of skiing, there’s plenty more to do – hiking and snowshoe walks are popular and the option of dog sledge trips through the mountains.

In terms of accommodation, this is a resort where there are plenty of options. If you prefer hotel accommodation, there are a number of hotels in St Martin de Belleville and the surrounding hamlets, including the three-star Alp Hotel, right by the gondola and the four-star La Bouitte mentioned before. There are converted farmhouses offering self-catering in addition to contemporary chalets and apartments. The resort has its own quality label, in the form of a gold, silver or bronze snowflake!

For those with children, there’s a ski school in the resort and a comprehensive programme of kids shows. As one of the smaller and quieter resorts in the 3 valleys, St Martin de Belleville offers a unique opportunity for families who want to ski and stay somewhere relaxing.

If you are looking for somewhere intimate, with great local skiing and amazing food, somewhere with the flexibility to allow you to ski across the whole 3 valleys, somewhere that feels quintessentially French, why not try St Martin de Belleville?

  1. I have never been skiing! I went snowboarding once in one of those indoor ones and I was terrified but one day I will overcome my fears and come here to try skiing! It looks like a really beautiful place.

  3. I’m not a skier but that cross country terrain looks incredible. The town with the roofs all decorated in fresh snow looks like a Christmas card, so beautiful.

  4. I love skiing although I’m not very good at it but hopefully I’ll be more adept at it. This looks like a great place to do just that and I would thoroughly enjoy the view.

  6. We’ve been to Courcheval in the Three Valleys but I’ve not heard of St.Martin before. We love skiing in the French Alps – great snow and great food/drink. Most of my family goes for the snow but it’s really the food and drink that is close to my heart!

  7. We are moving from Germany (where we have skiied the last 5 years) back to a part of the US that is just plain flat. I’m so going to miss the slopes, the good food and the amazing weekends that skiing has provided us! St. Martin looks like a dream!
