Chef-led recipes from around the world from The Cookaway.
In the light of Covid19 and staying in becoming the new normal, lots of exciting new companies have emerged which are making mealtimes and nights in much more fun. The Cookaway are doing exactly that by providing high-quality recipe boxes delivered to your door which offer a new range of chef-led recipes from around the world that focus on authenticity, flavour and fresh good quality ingredients.
The Cookaway features five chefs who each specialise in different regional recipes from Indian to Italian, Spanish to Japanese, and I am told there are more cuisines to come.
As I am always up for cooking something new, I was delighted to choose a meal from The Cookaway website. Ordering online was very easy to navigate, you can browse through the different cuisines, see what takes your fancy and order a meal to suit you, all dishes are available for two or four people, they are reasonably priced and you can choose your preferred date of delivery.
There was plenty of choice, but I opted for a Spanish vegetarian dish of stuffed Romano peppers with roasted cauliflower and Romesco sauce and a side of patatas bravas. There is a wide selection of meals available to suit every taste and dietary requirement, including meat and fish options.
On Friday morning a large cardboard box arrived at my door. Inside were endless packets of individually packed goodies, lovely looking fresh vegetables, fruit, small bottles of olive oil, manchego cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, nuts, seeds, eggs, herbs, and spices all in individual pots. There was a cool-bag that contained the fridge ingredients and 3 recipe cards each which gave detailed instructions on how to cook the meal.
The Romano peppers were stuffed with rice, courgettes, grated manchego cheese, tomatoes, orange zest, garlic, nuts, seed, herbs, and spices. Lots of prep involved but the result was beautifully colourful and bursting with delicious flavours, I loved the sweetness of the peppers which worked really well with the gooey spiced rice laced with crunchy nuts and seeds.
The roasted cauliflower was sautéed first in a pan before roasting. The sauce was made by pre-roasting peppers and tomatoes with garlic, then adding spices and putting all the ingredients in the blender to make a wonderfully rich peppery Romanesco sauce which was drizzled over the cauliflower.
And finally, patatas bravas which I have never cooked before. The potatoes were a breeze, but I have to admit I struggled with the mayonnaise as it didn’t thicken as much as I would have liked. Clearly need to update some of my kitchen equipment!
However, overall the meal was a great success it looked fabulous and tasted delicious and we added a bowl of green salad and accompanied it with a bottle of chilled rose….perfect for summer dining.
The Cookaway’s recipe boxes are a great way of bringing friends or family together, or alternatively, it could make a rather entertaining date night. It’s a lovely way to discover different recipes from around the world and try out new cooking techniques. I find it’s easy to slip into cooking the same meals week after week, which can become quite tedious, but this offers something a little adventurous as well as being very convenient.
