Staycationing at the Cumberland Hotel, Marble Arch, London:

For a variety of reasons it hasn’t been possible to hop on a plane this summer, and I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, so when Fiona asked if we’d like to stay in the Cumberland Hotel following her review of the artist in residence during July I was delighted.

I had been to the Cumberland some years previously for a conference, but hasn’t been a resident.  The hotel is in the perfect location for shopping; it’s at Marble Arch, so at the heart of Oxford Street, South Moulton Street, Bond Street, and my personal favourite, St. Christopher’s Place.  This was the view from our window on the 2nd floor.  Cumberland - viewThe room was immaculate, and well equipped with a small fridge, a good selection of tea or coffee, an iron, an ironing board and a hairdryer.  A lovely touch was some fresh fruit, as well as some chocolates.   Our executive room had a very comfortable king sized bed, with the decorative towel arrangement that all chambermaids are adept at these days! Cumberland - room

Cumberland - chocsThe bathroom was compact and functional.  There were a couple of things that could have been thought through more; once you’d used the hand towels, there wasn’t anywhere to hang them, and there wasn’t a soap dish or rim on the sink for the soap once opened.

Cumberland - bathroomWe were invited to the lounge where complimentary beer, wine and canapes were available early evening.  Breakfast and afternoon tea are also served here, although we were advised that the breakfast selection would be more extensive in the Market restaurant.  We choose to walk to Edgware Road for our evening meal, and had an amazing Lebanese meal from one of the many vibrant restaurants in this area.

There was certainly a good breakfast selection in the Market; fruit, croissants, cheeses, full English and also an Arabic breakfast bar with non-pork products.

The hotel was busy, and clearly packed with people intent on shopping until they dropped.   It’s certainly the perfect location for visitors to London who want to be in the heart of things.

I felt a bit odd going into work in the morning;  it was a bit like the ‘walk of shame’ from my much much younger days!

London is one of the city that has the leading fashion trend. Along with that, it is one of the top tourist destination in the world. Many would love to visit the place. I had the chance to be there last year and it is awesome like a dream come true. We stayed in another hotel and its like it is expensive. Thanks I found this post. For next time I will be there, I will stay in this hotel. I can see that it nice and affordable.

What a great opportunity to spend the night there. It sounds delightful (though the bathroom lacking racks and soap dishes seems more than a little odd). I think the chocolates were a great addition. The view though is definitely spectacular.
