The Refinery Regent’s Place:

Refinery 1

I’m not overly familiar with Warren Street or the surrounding area but last Saturday found myself in that vicinity on a visit to The Refinery at Regent’s Place.  A very modern bar and restaurant, which also benefits from a large outdoor seating area, the Refinery is a bit of an oasis in an otherwise no-man’s-land of office buildings.  I should imagine this means it does very well with the after-work crowd and even early on a Saturday evening there was a buzz to the place.  The interior is very light and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows and there is a quirky mix of furniture – big comfy armchairs covered in animal skins for those wanting to eat in comfort or plenty of high seated bar stools for those who want to watch as their favourite cocktail is created.

The food menu is available all day and is largely made up of classic dishes to be enjoyed over drinks.  For starters we shared Salt & Pepper Squid and Chicken Satay, which were both tasty and well cooked.  Another diner had the Crispy Duck flatbread, which was so huge it must have been meant as one of the sharing plates.  This was an interesting take on the duck pancakes found in Chinese restaurants, with the same flavours served on a flatbread.

On a Saturday, the Refinery have recently introduced their own take on surf & turf with their Reef, Beef & Bubbles special offer.  This consists of  half a lobster, a 6oz rump steak, triple-cooked chips and a glass of Prosecco.  All of this is priced at £19.95, which makes it pretty good value.

If you decide you want to follow this with something sweet, I can thoroughly recommend the chocolate brownie which was crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside (just as a brownie should be) and comes served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate pouring sauce.

Warren Street station is just a quick jump on the tube from Oxford Street, so if you fancy somewhere to grab a drink and bite to eat after you have finished shopping, this is a good option.  The Refinery is also a short walk from Regent’s Park and so another option for pre-theatre dining if you are going to the Open Air Theatre this summer.

If you fancy the Reef, Beef & Bubbles offer, it is available until September on Saturdays only from 5pm-10pm.  Booking must be made in advance quoting offer ‘reef, beef & bubbles’.

This looks like a killer meal. I love the brownie already. I have had brownies on the mind of late. I also love the concept of the Reef, Beef & Bubbles!!
