Tibits Mayfair – Vegetarian and Vegan Dining where you won’t miss the meat:
Tibits is one of London’s leading vegetarian and vegan restaurant groups and we’ve never been disappointed with the food there. As it is one of our favourite vegetarian restaurants in London, we were delighted to be invited to visit Tibits again, this time trying the Mayfair restaurant rather than our old haunt in Bankside.
Tibits was founded in the year 2000 by three committed vegetarian brothers, Christian, Daniel and Reto Frei. They were uninspired by the lack of vegetarian offerings in their native Switzerland. Together with Rolf and Marielle Hiltl, owners of renowned Haus Hiltl, Zurich’s oldest vegetarian restaurant, they opened the first Tibits restaurant, in Zurich. Since then Tibits has become one of Europe’s most well known vegetarian and vegan restaurant brands with locations in Switzerland, UK and soon Germany.
What has made Tibits such a successful and award-winning brand is the commitment to their original mission statement, ‘offering a diverse and interesting menu from breakfast through to dinner with ever evolving and changing dishes’. At each Tibits restaurants today you’ll find over 40 dishes available with influences from across the globe, and all housed in a warm and welcoming environment.
We received a very warm greeting from our host, and were shown to a lovely table in the window where you can see the comings and goings on Heddon Street. There is also an outside terrace which is perfect for people watching. We ordered drinks at the bar from a wide selection of cocktails craft beers and vegetarian wine. Draught Freedom IPA for the Veggie Man and cucumber spritz with cucumber and lemon infused gin and prosecco for me.
The centrepiece of each Tibits restaurant is the “food boat”- a cornucopia of vegetarian delights with hot and cold starters, salads, vegetables and delicious main courses.
We each sampled a selection of dishes all of which were fresh and tasty. The dishes are replenished regularly so you’re always guaranteed a full selection and the hot food is all piping hot (not always the case with this style of dining).
We love the fact you can make up your own meal and take as little or as much as you want from the many choices.
You could of course have a salad/cold plate and then anther hot food if you wanted a more traditional starter and main. I prefer to section the plate!
As well as being vegetarian mine is completely gluten free, helped by the carefully marked dishes with all allergy signs.
Desserts looked tempting especially the vegetarian tiramisu but as I am gluten free the choices for me were limited so the Veggie Man chivalrously declined.
Once again, Tibits delivered on its mission to bring high quality and variety to all diners. Where the Mayfair branch scores particularly highly is that it delivers this in an elegant and grown-up setting in the heart of the West End. Why not give it a try next time you’re there?
