Low Calorie Celeriac Soup – with Wicked Blue Cheese Croutons

Low-Calorie Celeriac Soup Recipe and More for The Big Broth: As any regular reader of London-Unattached may have noticed I share recipes for a lot of home-made soup.  Celeriac Soup is one of my own personal favourites – I love the taste of celery and by using celeriac I can avoid the stringy bits on […]

Low Calorie Leek and Potato Soup

Diet Leek and Potato Soup Recipe – comfort food from my childhood: Every weekend that I am in London I wander over to the Farmers’ Market at Oval.  My first stop is always the same.  I go to the first farm stall to buy chicken carcasses – 4 for a pound.  I boil them up […]

Easy Healthy Eating – 5:2 Lifestyle Diet – Carrot and Celeriac Soup

Low-Calorie Carrot and Celeriac Soup with Coriander: I’ve been something of an irregular follower of the 5:2 diet over the last year.  The result is that my weight has gradually crept up and I now feel a need to lose a few kilos again.  Around 8kg would be perfect.  For 2017, I’ve decided on a […]

My 5:2 Diet – Spicy Spinach and Chickpea Soup and More

5:2 Diet Tips –  Spicy Spinach and Chickpea Soup – Planning Perfect Fast Day Meals:   Despite a five day holiday, I’m trying my best to get back into a routine with the 5:2 diet.  Last time round I developed something of a pattern with home-made soup for lunch and dinner of fresh white fish […]

Soup Story – Low Calorie Creamy Leek Soup

Low Calorie Creamy Leek Soup – experimenting with Raw Food: I should be doing the 5:2 Diet. I know I should be – I’ve put on a bit of weight and I’ve discovered that the 5:2 diet is a way that works for me – if I fast (500 calories) one day a week I […]

Overdone it at Christmas and New Year?

Overdone it at Christmas and New Year?

Healthy Soups for the New Year: It’s the 1st of January; I had a lovely Christmas with family and friends and brought in the New Year with some style (luckily not captured on camera!). Like many of us I suspect, I’m now dreading stepping on the scales and facing the damage! One way that I […]

Truffled Cream of Mushroom and Cauliflower Soup

Truffled Cream of Mushroom and Cauliflower Soup

A 5:2 Diet Staple and Cream of Mushroom Soup Recipe: Some time ago I tried making cauliflower cream.  The idea is to create something that has all the consistency of cream but none of the fat content or calories.  Or at least, FAR fewer calories. Blitzing an entire cauliflower actually makes rather too much for […]

Low Calorie Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup

Low Calorie Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup

Diet Soup Recipe – Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato: It is definitely soup season again.  Any regular reader may have noticed that I am not the most patient of cooks.  While I prefer to cook from scratch, I am quite prepared to take shortcuts.  And, although I would always recommend buying your vegetables ‘whole’, sometimes […]

Celeriac and Cucumber Soup – Testing the Froothie

Celeriac and Cucumber Soup – Testing the Froothie

Celeriac and Cucumber – Raw Soup for Health: I tend to avoid smoothies.  It’s partly that I like my fruit with ‘bite’ and partly that I have a few food allergies and a few dietary guidelines which are specific to hypothyroidism.  One of the guidelines for anyone who is hypothyroid is to avoid uncooked or […]

Watercress Soup With Quail Eggs for the #5:2 Diet

Watercress Soup With Quail Eggs for the #5:2 Diet

A Simple and Elegant Watercress Soup for the 5:2 Diet: Watercress is a brilliant ingredient for soups and this low-calorie watercress soup is a great addition to any diet recipe collection.  The stalks, in particular, have a lovely peppery taste, though they can be just a little stringy.  Some recipes suggest using just the leaves, […]

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

    image

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
