Serenity at Coconut Bay – St Lucia All Inclusive Adult Only Resort

From North to South – Serenity at Coconut Bay, St Lucia: Our penultimate day on St Lucia was busy.  Checking out of one hotel, we toured the island from North to South, via Hotel Chocolat and Government House, the official residence of the Governor-General of St Lucia. High up in the volcanic mountains, it’s surrounded […]

Living the Dream with The Royalton St Lucia

A Diamond Affair at The Royalton St Lucia: The concept of an all-inclusive resort like the recently opened Royalton on St Lucia is both amazing and terrifying for me.  As an independent traveller for most of my life, I’m used to planning my itinerary, finding the best restaurants to visit, working out the tours and […]

Beyond the Beach – Three Unique St Lucia Experiences

Three Things to Try in St Lucia: It’s all too easy when you arrive in somewhere like St Lucia to just stay put.  Stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and elegant resorts are just so tempting. But, this pretty Caribbean island has a lot more to offer.  Can I tempt you with chocolate perhaps? St Lucia […]

Food and Rum – First of Five Festivals on St Lucia

Party all year in St Lucia – starting with Food and Rum: Towards the end of last year at a reception at the St Lucian Embassy in London, I learnt that the tiny island of St Lucia has not one but five major festivals each year.  I’d never visited the island,  though I ‘d heard […]

Definitely not a Last Resort – St James’s Club Antigua

Rubbing Shoulders with the Stars at St James’s Club Antigua: It has been a while since I’ve flown long haul – older and perhaps a little grumpier the idea of flights between eight and ten hours out to Antigua and back home filled me with dread.  A necessary means to an end, I was grateful […]

Antigua – British Heritage in the Caribbean

Hurricanes and Heritage – British Colonialism in Antigua: One of the best ways to escape the monotony of a long haul flight is to find a good film to watch. Flicking restlessly through the available movies on the Virgin Atlantic flight to Antigua I found ’Twelve Years a Slave’. On my bucket list since release, […]

An Introduction to the #Caribbean – #Antigua

Sailing Week in Antigua: While my parents travelled a lot throughout my childhood, there was a brief phase when we stayed in one place.  For eight whole years.  I can remember being piled into the back of the car by my father to go to the sea-side for the day.  We had no idea why, […]

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

    image

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
