Pairing Tea and Chocolate with Whittard of Chelsea.
I have a habit of reaching for coffee to go with chocolate. Tea with toast, tea with cake (perversely even chocolate brownies) and green tea with Asian meals. But, dark aromatic coffee with chocolate. A recent event with Whittard showed there are plenty of good options, especially if you chose fine chocolate like that from Pierre Marcolini.
We tried a whole range of chocolates paired with some delicious teas. How about ‘Ganache Violette’ chocolate – a violet bonbon that paired beautifully with a Whittard Chelsea Garden blend of tea (white tea, English garden rosebuds and a hint of wild berries).
Or Praliné Calin fondant (almond praline, crunchy Quimper wafer and caramel with Tahitian vanilla) – this time paired with Chill mango – a black tea with mango amaranth, cactus blossom and a sprinkling of chilli. Perfect.
I’d never really thought about pairing speciality teas with chocolate – but it worked really well.
Whittard was founded by Walter Whittard in 1886 when he was just 25. A family business for over a hundred years that, despite being almost wiped out during the Second World War when their warehouse was destroyed by a bomb, has gone from strength to strength. It now has over 55 shops in the UK and around 40 overseas. And, for anyone who loves tea, coffee or drinking chocolate the shops are a veritable cornucopia where you can see, smell and taste before you buy.
But, since not everyone can pop along to the flagship Covent Garden branch of Whittard and pick out teas for themselves from their selection of hundreds, Whittard has offered me a very special prize for one lucky London-Unattached reader. The Very Alice gift set is a selection of three Whittard teas together with a beautiful mug and tea tidy decorated with original illustrations from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. And, some delicious chocolatey Mad Hatter biscuits so you can have your own tea party.
The gift set includes 15 individually wrapped Teabags (x5 English Breakfast, x5 Earl Grey, x5 English Rose) All Butter Double Chocolate Chip Biscuits 100g, a fine bone china Mug and a fine porcelain Tea Tidy.
All you need to do to enter the giveaway is follow the Rafflecopter through making sure you answer the compulsory question. I’d like to know your favourite chocolate – and then which tea from the Whittard range you’d pick to pair with it (check the link for some hints!)
