Win Wine – and challenge yourself to take the perfect shot.
Calling all wine lovers. While International #WinePhotographyDay happened last week, on 13th November, you’ve still got a chance to prove your ability. I did have a go myself – with a fabulous bottle of Errázuriz Don Maxiamiano Founder’s Reserve 2013 – but I’m not convinced I’ve got there yet.
Can you do better? Errázuriz sponsors the Wine Photographer of the Year category in the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year awards and they’ve offered us a bottle of Errázuriz Don Maximiano for one lucky reader. If you feel like a challenge then do consider entering the Wine Photographer competition too. You’ll find plenty of ideas on how to take that perfect shot on the Pink Lady® blog
Wine photography should leave you craving the content of the bottle. I’m not sure my photo of Errázuriz Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve 2013 does quite that. It’s a flagship wine that was crafted to help preserve the freshness and distinct fruit flavours of the 2013 vintage. I drank mine in front of a blazing fire, with nothing more than some olives and vegetable crisps – but, it would work well with cheese or with lighter game (partridge or grouse for example). Retailing at £64.99 a bottle, you’ll find it in Tannin & Oak, The Wine Reserve and from Waitrose.
Founded in 1870, Viña Errázuriz is in the Aconcagua Valley of Chile. Don Maximiano was a wine visionary and planted French grapes with the ambition of creating a top-end, leading winery in Chile. He went in search of an exceptional terroir in Chile, to the North of the Country – a region at the time that had no vines. After 2 days on horseback, travelling 100 kilometres, he settled on the Aconcagua Valley. There the mild Mediterranean climate, combined with volcanic and colluvial soil and easy access to water for irrigation inspired him to plant vineyards and start a winery – as he said: “from the best land, the best”. Today, the current president, Eduardo Chadwick Claro, a descendant of Don Maximiano Errázuriz, still shares that vision.
