Antigone [on strike] is a piece of political immersive theatre. It only lasts ninety minutes, there’s no interval. It’s thought-provoking on matters of how the media influences politics and public reactions to issues around immigration, human rights and extremism. Take someone you’re happy to argue with about it on the way home.

Piaf Revisited, Christine Bovill

The iconic French singer, Edith Piaf, never performed in the United Kingdom. However, if she had, Wilton’s Music Hall would have been a fitting venue. Within these peeling walls, Scottish singer Christine Bovill channels the ego of The Little Sparrow to great effect.

The Maids, Jermyn Street Theatre

The Maids Jean Genet play at Jermyn Street Theatre, Claire and Solange characters seated on floor

In its restrictive space, where even the toilet entrance is eccentrically on the stage itself, Jermyn Street Theatre is a highly suitable space to put on Jean Genet’s The Maids.

Vogue: Inventing the Runway at Lightroom

Vogue: Inventing the Runway, digital projection of blue flowers fill the walls and floor, two pictures fill the middle of each wall with a photo of a model in a red strapless dress. An audience are seated in the foreground.

The runway fashion show is an underappreciated art form. Whilst a plain white backdrop with models strutting along to loud music is the familiar cliché, “Vogue: Inventing the Runway” demonstrates how varied and inventive the techniques used to stage a fashion collection’s launch can be.

Dancing on Ice, this is not. Windmill arms a-plenty, at Moco Museum’s Ice Rink at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, it’s apparent how few teetering onto the Barbie pink rink are regular skaters. It matters not: the ongoing popularity of seasonal ice rinks in London proves ice skating at Christmas has become a checklist winter activity.

On the twelfth floor of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Savage Garden has a luxurious demeanour spiriting you away from the gift shops below. Tall windows show off a sweeping panorama from Tower Bridge towards the City.

Waterfront Street Kitchen & Bar is a nice destination to visit for its own sake, and you get a watery view for much less than venues near Battersea Power Station.

Jugad, Camden Stables Market

Jugad restaurant's Delhi butter chicken curry with red tomato sauce and swirls of non-dairy cream with rice and naan bread in background.

Jugad is a modern Indian restaurant in bustling Camden Stables; offering classic Indian dishes with a healthy twist. Food is served in a sit-down stylish warehouse, in comfort at tables rather than from the stand-up street food stalls common in Camden Market. If you crave Dishoom but don’t like queuing, book yourself a table at Jugad for a similar experience.
