Fast Food with Flair – Smashing it with Sam’s Smash Burgers
If you’re a West Londoner, you’re probably well-acquainted with Sam’s Riverside, Sam Harrison’s elegant brasserie that I recently had the pleasure of visiting, which boasts a prime riverside location right by Hammersmith Bridge. But Sam has been busy expanding his culinary footprint with the opening of Sam’s Waterside in Brentford. This new spot, serving Smash Burgers and more, joins the lineup alongside Sam’s Kitchen on Turnham Green Terrace and another Sam’s Kitchen conveniently located just around the corner from the brasserie near the river in Hammersmith.
Sam’s Kitchen Hammersmith offers all-day dining, serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Now, from Thursday to Saturday, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, they have just launched ‘Sam’s Smash Burgers’. No need to book – just pop in, grab a table and enjoy.
This bustling little corner eatery, with outdoor bench seating, is perfect for a casual visit. On the evening of my visit, which happened to be Halloween, Sam’s Kitchen had fully embraced the occasion with spooky décor, staff in costume, and dim lighting that added to the festive atmosphere. The interior features dark wood floors, caramel-coloured leather banquettes, and contemporary prints adorning the walls. A wood and turquoise-tiled bar sits at the rear, complete with a window into the kitchen. Compact, cosy, and inviting, this popular spot was buzzing with a young crowd. The funky soundtrack played throughout the evening, transforming into full-on 80s hits by the time we left.
When it comes to drinks, Sam’s Kitchen keeps it simple but satisfying. We kicked things off with a couple of Rotten Apple Frozen Margaritas served in paper cups straight from the slushy machine. They were surprisingly delicious with a solid punch – a promising start to the evening! Alternatively, you could opt for an Aperol Spritz or a Blood Punch lemonade – keeping in mind that this was a Halloween-themed night.
The menu is concise, focusing on quality over quantity, and if you’re a burger lover, you won’t be disappointed. One of the best things about dining at Sam’s is knowing that quality is never compromised. With four meat-based burgers and a Beyond Meat vegan cheeseburger option, there’s something for everyone. A selection of fries completes the lineup.
Food is served in boxes for a no-fuss experience, but don’t let that fool you; these are seriously tasty Smash Burgers. We tried the bacon and cheeseburger, which you can order as a single or double patty, and the Chorizo Jam Burger, which was incredibly juicy and flavourful. We paired the burgers with House Fries, generously topped with pickled shallots, crispy shallots, jalapeños, and melted cheese – truly scrumptious. The crisp iceberg salad was loaded with chunks of blue cheese and toasted walnuts, adding a satisfying crunch and bold flavour.
Pair your Smash Burger with a beer or a glass of Sicilian white, Languedoc red, or Lake Garda Chiaretto rosé, and you’re set for a great meal.
We indulged in Happy Endings ice cream sandwiches for the finale – a sophisticated twist on the classic choc-ice. We tried The Gay One, featuring malt shortbread, vanilla ice cream, salted caramel, and honeycomb parfait – a great combo.
