Affordable luxury dining at Chucs, Belgravia.

Sometimes we all need a little luxury and effortless glamour in our lives.

Chucs new flagship restaurant, which has recently opened in Belgravia’s Eccleston Street, provides exactly that. Since the launch of the original and much-acclaimed Chucs on Mayfair’s Dover Street in summer 2014, the group has successfully expanded to several locations across London.  Chucs Belgravia is the newest addition to their restaurant & cafe collection, launched under the direction of Chairman Graziano Arricale & Executive Chef Director Simon Henbery.

Chucs BelgraviaChucs Belgravia is its largest restaurant in the group to date, providing space for 55 covers and plenty of room to stand or sit at the glamorous bar plus it also features a wraparound terrace perfect for al fresco dining all year round. The stylish interior is designed by Fettle Studios and inspired by 1950s Italy, it creates an oasis of elegance and charm with warm oak panelling, parquet floors, powder blue banquettes, Art Deco fittings, mirrors and vintage photographs of the Amalfi Coast and Côte d’Azur adorning the walls. Linen tablecloths and napkins complete the look and there are several booths and cosy corners perfect for a romantic dinner.

Chucs BelgraviaChucs is open for breakfast lunch and dinner.  We went along on a cold winter’s evening to try out the dinner menu, soak up the atmosphere and dine in style.

Chucs BelgraviaWhen imagining oneself in Italy (even on a dark December evening) a classic Negroni kicks off the evening perfectly or perhaps like my friend, you will choose to enjoy a chilled glass of prosecco, wonderfully dry with notes of apple, lemon, and toasted brioche?

Prosecco & negroni -Chucs BelgraviaChucs Belgravia specialises in modern European cuisine as well as pizza and pasta and a selection of light and healthy options. Dishes new to the menu include Beef Tartare topped with Caviar and Citrus Cured Seabass with Ponzu & Sesame to start, followed by mains such as Truffle & Lovage Risotto, Spaghetti alla Chitarra with Anchovy & Barolo, Dover Sole and Dedham Vale Bone-in Ribeye for two.

The tables are elegantly set and I was rather impressed with the silver pepper mill, which has to be the heaviest one I’ve ever had the pleasure to use.

Chucs Belgravia - celeriac soup

We were brought a tasty basket of grissini and carts di Musica focaccia, alongside our starters – a delicious savoury bowl of celeriac soup with salty pancetta and seasonal chestnuts, and a plate of mild soft and creamy burrata with crisp slices of fennel and fennel pollen, black olives, cut through with sweet bites of citrus segments.

This was accompanied by an excellent glass of chilled Macon, full-bodied and minerally, which paired very well with our meal.

For our main course, we enjoyed perfectly cooked al dente ravioli – sweet plump parcels of pumpkin, sage and Amaretti, and a bountiful bowl of pappardelle, with a rich and fragrant tender duck ragu with lashings of Parmesan cheese.

On the side, my guilty pleasure, yummy slithers of crispy zucchini fritti, lightly battered and some fresh greens – in season puntarelle, with salty anchovy, mint and a crunchy chilli bite.

For dessert, we relished the most mouth-watering Tarte Tatin served with vanilla ice cream – heavenly sweet and perfectly caramelized.

The perfect destination for a bit of affordable luxury – any time of the day.

Looking for something different?  We recommend The Caxton Grill, part of St Ermin’s Hotel, currently running a traditional Victorian menu or The Hunter’s Moon in nearby Chelsea
