Caviar House & Prunier Afternoon Tea – Threadneedles Hotel – Indulging in life’s little luxuries
Indulging in afternoon tea is already a hallmark of life’s luxuries, yet when paired with caviar, it ascends to unparalleled heights of sophistication. This spring, Caviar House & Prunier has introduced an exclusive afternoon tea experience, available at its flagship 161 Piccadilly in London and Threadneedles Hotel in the heart of the City of London.

I went along to Threadneedles, a luxurious 5-star boutique hotel nestled in the heart of London’s financial district and located just a brief stroll from Bank, Liverpool Street Underground Station, and London Bridge, to indulge in afternoon tea amidst the opulent grandeur of their magnificent dome lounge.

The hotel occupies the historic premises of a Victorian bank, featuring a striking atrium adorned with a beautiful ornate stained glass central dome dating back to 1856. Within this architectural gem, neo-classical columns and friezes are juxtaposed with mid-century office-style furnishings. Teak wood panels, towering bookshelves, crimson leather banquettes, Chesterfield sofas, a polished marble floor and a graphic print circular rug add timeless elegance with modern comfort.

Alongside the lounge is the Grand Room, an elegant formal private dining room and the Caviar House Bar where drinks are served at the historic banking counter.

Our visit coincided with the Easter festivities, and vibrant spring floral arrangements added to the colourful and festive spirit.

Caviar House & Prunier distinguishes itself with a curated selection of fine caviars and smoked Balik salmon, solidifying its reputation as a premier caviar destination. Afternoon tea, formerly reserved for dainty sandwiches and delicate pastries, now the Caviar House Afternoon Tea ventures into the realm of ultra-luxury by blending the rich flavours of caviar and seafood, pushing the boundaries of indulgence.

To make the whole experience that extra bit special we began with a glass of champagne, before moving on to Earl Grey tea served in dainty glass teapots.

Prettily presented tiered trays greeted us, with an enticing assortment of sweet and savoury delights that led us on a captivating sensory journey, indulging in a plethora of textures and rich flavours. We started with the freshly baked scones served with a generous portion of delicious Balik salmon fillet, accompanied by velvety crème fraiche, chopped egg and the finest caviar, just fabulous!

Following on, a sumptuous Balik tartar sandwich which tantalised our taste buds, and a brioche roll brimmed with succulent prawns enveloped in a creamy house sauce. Additionally, a toasted grilled egg yolk sandwich, crowned with decadent caviar. My first time trying this unusual combo, it was a delightfully rich and flavourful experience.

The sweet tray was equally delectable, featuring a dreamily creamy cheesecake drizzled in strawberry sauce, delicate macarons, petits fours, cute mini carrot cake, a chocolate delice, and a lemon tart topped with airy meringue and caviar. Who would have thought such a combination could be a match made in heaven?

Caviar House & Prunier Afternoon Tea is a real treat, especially if you’re someone who adores the finer things in life like caviar so count me in! The magnificent historic surroundings at Threadneedles add an extra layer of glamour to the occasion.

For £110 per person, you can enjoy a lavish spread accompanied by artisan tea. However, for those seeking an extra touch of opulence, the champagne or cocktail pairing, priced at £125 per person, promises to perfectly complement the flavours on offer.
