A fit family affair at Cloud Twelve Brasserie
Notting Hill has long been the home of the young and hip plus it also has a real family vibe. So where do they all go to relax, unwind and eat healthy food whilst also keeping the kids entertained? Look no further. Cloud Twelve Club has got it all wrapped up, with an offer of a complete getaway in the heart of Notting Hill.
A destination that provides a host of holistic treatments with an indulgent spa and a luxury salon, alongside its nutritionally focused brasserie, Cloud Twelve also has a fabulous interactive play and learning zone for families with children.
Cloud Twelve Club is set over three floors, tucked away in a pretty Notting Hill mews right by Westbourne Grove just a stone’s throw from Portobello Road…definitely for those in the know.
I went along to their Brasserie which has just reopened with a new delicious and nutritious vegan and vegetarian menu for a relaxed weekend lunch.
The Saturday crowd were a mixture of Notting Hill yummy mummies, post spa buddies and young families all enjoying the leisurely atmosphere.
We were welcomed by lovely friendly staff into the bright and airy restaurant area and were given a window table looking out over the mews.
The colourful stylish décor encompasses attractive floral murals with glass and mirror panelling, a wooden floor and large beaded chandeliers hanging over the long central table. Patterned fabric-backed chairs in navy blue, sage and beige leather give it a unique look.
We browsed the menu which embraces global flavours and focuses on fresh quality ingredients with an emphasis on nutrition. Each dish is labelled with V – Vegetarian, VG- Vegan or GF – Gluten Free which is a great help for those with intolerances or dietary needs.
It offers a good choice of sharing dishes all served Tapas style, which I love, and a combo approach bringing together Modern European, hints of classic French, traditional Spanish and some Asian flavours.
In terms of drinks, there’s something for everyone – a smoothie bar, juice bar, tea, coffees, botanical lattes and for those who prefer something alcoholic, there’s an excellent wine list with a selection of premium wines and champagnes.
We started with a dry chilled glass of Picpoul de Pinet accompanied by a grazing plate of patatas bravas, not the traditional Spanish type, but cute balls of fluffy potato given a bit of kick by a wasabi infused mayonnaise. Other options included a roasted mushroom pate with balsamic glaze and toasted sourdough.
We chose four tapas dishes to share.
First to arrive was prettily presented multi-coloured sweet beetroot tartar with cool coconut yoghurt flavoured with horseradish and topped with crunchy mustard seeds…absolutely delicious.
The light and creamy burrata served with luscious caramelised figs, rocket and a sweet mustard vinaigrette was a divine combination.
The Asian flavoured sweet potato went down a treat, baked and glazed with sweet and fruity miso, topped with tangy lime mayo and coriander cress, perched on a bed of crème fraiche.
The hispi cabbage was my companion’s favourite, poached and charred with crispy shallots and salsa verde… a fabulous fusion of piquant flavours.
Other options included vegetable ceviche with sweet soy dressing, orange and yuzu, roasted cauliflower, with cauliflower puree, pomegranate, dill and chive vinaigrette, baby tenderstem broccoli, chilli oil dressing, toasted buckwheat seeds or roasted new potatoes with confit onion, white onion puree and pesto.
For pudding, we munched on moist and spongy banana bread laced with cinnamon and ginger, and some seriously good matcha chocolate brownies, which both came from a bakery in Ladbroke Grove called Leaf Wild that makes plant-based, gluten-free desserts which are free of refined sugars.
And finally, black coffee and herbal tea…perfect!
So, when in Notting Hill, do search out this gem of brasserie at Cloud Twelve Club, the perfect relaxed setting for meeting friends and grazing on really scrumptious healthy food.
