A Scrumptious Sunday Lunch Experience in the Heart of the City

Perched high above the pulse of the City, D&D London’s rooftop restaurant Coq d’Argent invites you to indulge in a culinary escapade with their newly launched Sunday Roast menu.

Interior Coq d'Argent

Coq d’Argent is in a prime location on the 6th floor of No.1 Poultry, a post-modernist building designed by James Stirling, just a short walk from Bank underground station. It’s accessed via glass lifts that transport you to the restaurant and its spectacular gardens.

Picture this: a vibrant rooftop sanctuary amidst the urban bustle, where the buzz of the Square Mile fades into the background, replaced by sweeping vistas that paint London in all its glory. It’s got to be one of the best spots in the City!

This elegant and spacious eatery exudes an air of sophistication with its sleek and modern interior design. Wood panels and a stone floor in neutral tones are complemented by sage green leather chairs and banquettes. The centrepiece is a stunning bar, while tables adorned with crisp white linen tablecloths and smartly dressed staff complete the picture of refined dining.

Coq d’Argent offers fine French cuisine with modern flair using the freshest seasonal products. The new menu created by Head Chef Damien Rigollet, adds a classic French twist to the traditional British Sunday feast.

View from Coq d'Argent

The day of our visit was a chilly March afternoon, and although there were heaters on the terrace, we decided to cosy up inside the restaurant, settling down to enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch, kicking things off with a glass of fizz – perfect!

Fizz - Coq d'Argent

The Sunday Roast menu is served in two or three courses and offers excellent value. Les Rotisseries du Coq d’Argent, features classic roasts with a choice between 40-day dry-aged Angus Hereford sirloin, Alan Barrow Brook Street Farm leg of lamb, or French whole cornfed baby chicken. Additional choices include Souris d’Agneau (rosemary and garlic slow-cooked lamb shank) and for those seeking extra indulgence, there’s a Chateaubriand to share.

Fromage de Chèvre

The starters were all equally tempting – with dishes including Saumon Fume, Tartare de Boeuf and Escargots de Bourgogne. We began with Fromage de Chèvre – a delicious plump, crisp and golden pastry parcel, stuffed with a creamy Poitou goats’ cheese and sweet pepper piperade, drizzled in a sweet honey and basil dressing.

Oysters

And a welcome taste of the sea with six Scottish Cumbrae Rick No. 3 oysters, complemented perfectly by the kick of mignonette sauce. The service was relaxed and welcoming, the charming sommelier suggested match wines from the Love Wine menu, which offers a selection of fine wines at sane prices. I don’t drink red wine, but he helpfully suggested alternatives that would pair equally well with our meal. With our starters a glass of Boutinot “La Première Ballerine” Blanc 2022 Cote de Gascogne France. Fresh, dry, and lemony.

Alan Barrow Brook Street Farm leg of lamb

For my main course, I opted for the Alan Barrow Brook Street Farm Leg of Lamb – beautiful tender slices of high-quality lamb, bursting with hearty flavours, served with a luscious red wine jus and traditional comforting accompaniments of root vegetables, wonderfully crunchy roast potatoes, a traditional Yorkshire pudding and a side of green beans. My companion chose the Loup de Mer – perfectly cooked seared sea bass fillet, rested on a bed of fabulous Devon white crab and glimmering prawn risotto with a flavoursome seafood bisque accompanied by a verdant leaf salad.

Sea Bass - Coq d'Argent

Paired with Vallet Fréres, Pernand – Vergelesses 2020 Burgundy France – an excellent wine with a good body and a balance of acidity and minerality, complemented by subtle notes of red berries and a hint of spice.

Tarte Tatin

And finally, the desserts, a selection of decadent French classics – did we need them? Probably not!  I was initially tempted by the Crème Brulée, but with Tarte Tatin on the menu, it won, hands down. Here cooked to perfection, a gorgeous, indulgent, sticky, caramelised apple feast with a creamy dollop of vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate fondant

My companion tucked into a Fondant au chocolat noir –a pleasingly warm, rich and gooey chocolate-fest served with pistachio ice cream.

Coq d'Argent gardens

Coq d’Argent has unequivocally secured a spot among my top choices for Sunday lunch. It is a lovely, elegant affair with delicious food and stunning views of the City. So, if you haven’t already, be sure to include Coq d’Argent on your list of must-visit dining destinations.

Coq d’Argent will serve the Sunday Roast menu every Sunday from 31st March between 12 pm – 4 pm.

Two-courses for £30pp | Three-courses for £35pp
