Dermoi PCA Skin Perfecting Peel
Over the past ten years, there has been a huge rise in the use of Botox and injectable treatments to help tackle the signs of ageing. It has now become relatively commonplace with many celebrities openly talking about using it. The younger generation who has money to spare are also are beginning to have Botox as an ageing preventative, even before any lines have formed.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of women aged 19 to 34 who have this cosmetic procedure has increased by 41% since 2011. And the Guardian reported that in the UK plastic surgeons saw a 70% increase in consultations with a demand for Botox in 2020. Men are also increasingly turning to Botox – they now account for 10% of all users, earning it the moniker “Brotox.”
However not everyone wants to go down the injectables route, so is there another more holistic way to prevent and improve the signs of ageing? Surely if we find better ways to look after our skin we can help slow down the ageing process.
Dermoi is a cosmeceutical skincare platform for people who are looking to care for their skin, for those who want glowing, healthy younger looking skin without using injectables and other invasive treatments. They understand that harsh procedures offering instant results will not help you in the long term and can make you age faster. Dermoi have in-house scientists who are constantly researching, analysing, and selecting the most advanced products and treatments for your skin’s health, handpicking products from different brands in order to offer the best possible skin solutions. They believe in enhancing the natural functions of your skin by getting the right, clinically-proven actives to the right layer of your skin. Caring about the quality of your skin today, tomorrow, and in 20 years’ time.
Dermoi’s Chief Scientific Officer, Eve Casha, MSc Pharmaceutical Formulation has commented on the relationship between Botox and Facial treatments. Her thoughts are below:
“Botox procedures involve an injection of a bacterial toxin, Botulinum Toxin, into the muscles of deep facial expression to cause temporary and reversible paralysis of a muscle. This is to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles associated with muscle contraction. ”
“However, what many don’t consider is that there are many signs of ageing in the skin that muscle contractions are not the cause of. For example, as we age certain cell types in the skin decline in number and activity. In addition, it is estimated that over 80% of the ageing seen on the face is from long-term exposure to UV radiation and this is what leads to the majority of wrinkles, dryness, leathery texture, uneven pigmentation, and sagging appearing with age.”
Over the last 6 months, I have been having regular facial treatments with Dermoi who provide an amazing personalised service with wraparound support and care for your skin’s needs including advanced facial treatments, skincare advice and a great range of skincare products and supplements to suit the individual. I have noticed a remarkable improvement in my skin, and the added joy is that Demoi comes to your home, so you don’t have to travel.
Currently, Dermoi has two different facial treatments to choose from: The Osmosis Vitamin A Infusion Facial or the PCA Skin Facial Peel. I first tried the Vitamin A Infusion Facial and I really noticed the difference in my complexion, my skin felt much smoother and had a lovely healthy glow.
When my Dermoi therapist suggested trying a facial peel, it immediately conjured up images of a red, scabby and swollen face, and having to keep a low profile for a good week and maybe more. That not only sounds rather horrific but would also be quite impossible for me. I can’t take that sort of time off from work and life in general. However, she quickly explained that Dermoi’s PCA Skin Facial Peel is a non-acid peel which is quite different as it is a progressive, not aggressive procedure that has very powerful effects as it resurfaces, tightens, and lifts the skin without damage. Many facial peels on the market act too deep, so they destroy collagen and cause the skin to sag over time.
The PCA Skin Perfecting Peel is a superficial facial peel that allows for customisable resurfacing, so it will never burn the skin or cause premature ageing. The treatment incorporates an advanced retinoid (vitamin A) booster to provide deep resurfacing. It is ideal for those with skin texture issues (wrinkles or acne scarring) and will brighten and even skin tone even after one session. The downtime after the treatment is approximately 48 hours, and you can expect some flaking of the skin.
Deep Cleanse with Clarifying Mask: The treatment begins with a double cleanse and a clarifying mask to remove excess sebum and debris before proceeding with the peel. This deep cleanse is combined with galvanic technology, ultrasonic stimulation, and LED light therapy to enhance the efficacy of the cleanse while lifting, firming, and sculpting.
Customised Peeling: A unique combination of self-neutralising enzymatic and AHA peeling solutions are applied layer by layer depending on the condition of your skin. The solutions contain potent actives and antioxidants such as mandelic acid, lactic acid, resveratrol ferment extract, and Indian gooseberry to fight pigmentation and wrinkles.
I decided to try the PCA Skin Perfecting Peel treatment, and have now had two treatments over a two-month period. I couldn’t be more delighted with the results, after the first treatment I noticed that my skin was much smoother and tighter. I was advised that the downtime after the treatment was approximately 48 hours, but I was able to go out the next day with a lovely glowing complexion and no negative after-effects.
For my second treatment, I had the additional Advanced Resurfacing Booster: A treatment booster (10.5% retinoid blend) which is incorporated for intense resurfacing, firming, and enlightening results. This treatment provides increased results without causing excess damage to the skin’s collagen and deep layers of the skin.
My skin was a bit red and mildly flaky for about 3 days but I am so pleased with the result. It has diminished pigmentation marks and given my complexion a much smoother, more even and brighter tone.
There is no doubt that skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and/ or ageing, can have an extremely negative impact on our mental well-being and quality of life, I know I feel much happier when my skin is healthy and glowing, so I think it’s worth investing in high-quality skincare from professionals who know what they are doing. I genuinely believe that if we all committed more time and energy to look after our skin by having regular facial treatments, using the right products as well as keeping hydrated and applying high sun protection that it is possible to slow down the ageing process of the skin and without using injectables.
