Footie and Fizz at Sky Deck!

On a sunny late summer’s day, the matchday walk down by the river to Fulham FC’s ground at Craven Cottage is as pretty as it is exciting. I was off to see the Fulham – Manchester United match and to review Sky Deck, Fulham FC’s ultra-premium match day hospitality offer. I’m a Man U supporter with strong family ties to Fulham and figured that whatever the result, I was winning.

FULHAM SKY DECK RIVER VIEW

Sky Deck is located on three floors at the top of the new Riverside stand at Craven Cottage. There are fantastic views of the river that stretch right across West London. You can access Sky Deck up to three hours before match time, so there is plenty of opportunity to eat and drink before the exertions of watching the game. It’s easy to walk there either from Hammersmith, Fulham or as I did from Putney.

FULHAM SKY DECK WINES

Once you have passed through security and picked up a posh lanyard, you zip up in a lift to the three Sky Deck floors. As you exit, a smiling waiter offers you a glass of Veuve Cliquot. Champagne and football? Why not! I found myself warming to the Sky Deck concept. This was going to be fun.

FULHAM SKY DECK LOUNGE

I nabbed a comfortable sofa with the floor to ceiling windows giving great views of the river as well as being a good base for people watching. I spotted a number of football notables.

FULHAM SKY DECK BAR

The first two floors are also dedicated to hospitality. There are a series of lounges, restaurants and sports bars that stretch the length of the stadium with a variety of complimentary food and drink options. Décor-wise, Sky Deck is a bit art deco but with industrial ducting, and there are plenty of comfy patterned sofas to lounge around on.

FULHAM SKY DECK BUFFET

The charming staff deliver table service, bringing your choice of wines, beers, spirits, cocktails or soft drinks and bowls of tasty nosh. If you want to serve yourself, there are also buffet tables. The food was all freshly prepared and there was a wide range of options.

FULHAM SKY DECK CHEF

For a bit of kitchen theatre you can watch the chefs at their stations cooking up a storm.

FULHAM SKY DECK PIES

At half-time trays of pies appeared and there was even a vegetarian option for me. The pies had an unexpectedly excellent pastry and were welcome as I hadn’t eaten for 45 minutes.

FULHAM SKY DECK TIRAMISU

Desserts was Tiramisu. I had two…

FULHAM SKY DECK MATCH

Soon enough it was time for the main event. Sky Deck customers sit together in a block straddling the halfway line. It is high enough to get a full view of the game but close enough to feel part of the action. The seats are comfier than most at football stadiums and I came away from the match with a serious case of lawn envy as the Fulham pitch was immaculately kept, even after our long hot summer.

FULHAM SKY DECK TOP FLOOR BAR

The top floor is where to go for spectacular views with bars at either ends and a post-match party featuring a DJ playing club bangers. The drinks and banter were flowing freely as punters dissected the match, the ref’s decision making and the tactical choices of the managers. The consensus was that the 1-1 draw was a fair result.

FULHAM SKY DECK RIVER VIEW 2

I loved the whole Sky Deck experience which was perfectly pitched for a football audience wanting a bit extra. It felt very safe and friendly with family groups enjoying the experience as well as groups of chaps having a day out. Although it was busy, the high staff to customer ration meant that you were always served quickly and efficiently.

FULHAM SKY DECK RIVER VIEW 3

If you’re a foodie, Fulham FC are launching ‘Constance on Matchdays’
situated on Level One in The Riverside. Brasserie Constance is the Michelin Guide-recognised restaurant at Fulham Pier and Fulham is the first Premier League football club with a Michelin Guide-recognised dining experience as part of their hospitality offering. At London Unattached we have long been fans of chef Adam Byatt with his Michelin starred Trinity in Clapham being a particular favourite.
Fulham are also very well set up for hosting Christmas-period parties and dinners with three fixtures over the festive period:

28th November vs Bournemouth
12th December vs Brentford
26th December vs Brighton

I felt very privileged to have the opportunity to experience Sky Deck. There’s nothing else at this level available at any other Premiership clubs. It makes for a fabulous day out with family, friends or for business entertaining. Like Arnie, ‘I’ll be back”!
