How to make an aromatic Grey Goose Vodka Afternoon Spritz cocktail.
Since lockdown, like many other people, I have enjoyed taking long walks and embracing home life by finding new hobbies including a bit of baking, gardening, and making cocktails. My old cocktail shaker, which was lurking at the back of the cupboard has found a new lease of life and I’ve been filling my home with some lovely verdant green plants.
With the pleasure of having had a lovely long hot summer, eating and drinking alfresco has become the new norm and I have been having a few small socially distanced gatherings in my London garden, so it’s no surprise that new research commissioned by family-owned spirits company Bacardi has revealed the Great British Garden Party is making a comeback with British survey participants saying they are spending an impressive 16 hours per week socialising outdoors this Summer.
This past week we have been treated to a glorious Indian summer so I was rather excited to receive a large box in the post courtesy of artisan florists FLOOM, who have partnered with up with Bacardi drinks group to create three ‘Grow-Your-Own’ Garnish kits from BACARDÍ, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE and GREY GOOSE- bringing garden to glass with a selection of fresh garnishes plucked straight from the source to enhance your alfresco gatherings.
Joe McCanta, Global Head of Education and Mixology at Bacardi says “Anyone can be a cocktail expert with just a few fresh plants from their garden. The Bacardi Grow-Your-Own Garnish kits allow people to experiment with fresh flavours and aromas and serve friends and family a unique cocktail that they can be proud of. There is a cocktail connoisseur in all of us and I’m super excited that Bacardi will be bringing this experience to homes this Autumn”.
The choice is yours – which fragrant cocktail takes your fancy? A BACARDÍ mojito with fresh mint, a twist on a classic BOMBAY SAPPHIRE G & T with a Basil Spritz or a GREY GOOSE Vodka Afternoon Spritz. My own Grow Your Own Garnish box included a 35cl bottle of Grey Goose Vodka, two healthy-looking plants – one rosemary and one thyme both potted in lovely blues ceramic pots, and a recipe card giving clear instructions on how to make a Grey Goose Afternoon Spritz.
The sun was still shining, so with everything I needed I set about making this refreshing aromatic cocktail. The recipe suggested using Martini Prosecco but I used a classic prosecco, along with the Grey Goose vodka, lemon juice, honey, and a couple of sprigs of rosemary and thyme for a herbaceous twist. The honey adds a touch of sweetness and makes this an excellent fresh light summers’ apéritif.
A fresh light summers’ apéritif
- 120 ml Grey Goose Vodka
- 120 ml Prosecco
- 30 ml lemon juice
- 2 tsp honey
- 2 sprigs rosemary or thyme
Stir honey in with Grey Goose and lemon juice
Add ice, shake hard
Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice, top with Prosecco
Garnish with either thyme or rosemary
Whether you want to make your own herbaceous cocktails or send someone a great gift, this is a fabulous way of doing it.
The Bacardi Grow ‘Your Own Garnish kits’ will be available on Floom.com and will be delivered in a bespoke gift box specific to each of the three brands, complete with plants, bottles and recipe cards.
