Harry’s King’s Cross: The New Dolce Vita Hotspot by King’s Cross Station

4.0 out of 5.0 stars

Bang in the heart of King’s Cross’s glossy new quarter, just a suitcase’s roll from the station, Harry’s has flung open its doors this summer with all the swagger of a place that knows it’s being watched. You can’t miss it. The terrace is a riot of greenery and blooms, brimming with diners who look as if they’ve dressed for the occasion. Beneath grand green umbrellas, uniformed staff swirl between tables, women in sleek, figure-hugging emerald dresses, men in striped forest green blazers, cream waistcoats, and bow ties, offering a warm, old-school welcome that borders on theatrical. It’s the kind of entrance that makes you sit up straight and order a spritz before you’ve even seen the menu.

Harry’s King’s Cross is the latest addition to the Dolce Vita group, joining its glamorous siblings in Knightsbridge and Marylebone. Here, the vibe is no less luxe, but with its unbeatable location, it’s perfectly pitched for travellers arriving at the capital and looking for their first taste of London in a super-stylish setting. And with summer in full swing, the flower-draped terrace couldn’t be more inviting – buzzing with energy and the clink of glasses, it’s already a scene.

Step inside and the drama continues. The interior is a blend of Venetian Dolce Vita and London polish: marble black-and-white flooring, a high mirrored ceiling dripping with chandeliers, and a grand wood-and-gold bar that commands the room. Caramel leather banquettes curve around crisp white tablecloths, neatly set with enamelled glassware and satisfyingly weighty salt and pepper pots. There’s a jazzy soundtrack in the background, just loud enough to spark a mood, and the whole place hums with a sense of occasion. This is Italian glamour, London style – bold, a little brassy, and impossible to ignore.

The menu is neatly divided into sections: Cicchetti, Antipasti, Pizze, Pasta, Secondi, and Dolcetti, making it easy to choose whether you’re after a light lunch or something more indulgent. We began with a couple of antipasti to share, starting with the Insalata di Mozzarella. Light, crisp, and properly summery, it came prettily layered with slithers of fennel, peppery rocket, creamy mozzarella, and juicy peaches. My kind of salad – and one of those dishes that makes you wonder why you don’t just throw it together at home (I won’t).

Then came Harry’s Tagliolini, a gratinated nest of pasta served steaming in a little copper pan – gloriously rich with truffle, Parmesan, and cream. It was everything you want from a comfort dish: golden, bubbling at the edges, and unapologetically decadent. The sort of plate that silences conversation until it’s gone.

From the Secondi section, my companion opted for the Tonno alla Griglia—a generous chargrilled tuna steak served atop a bed of creamy cannellini beans and dressed in a warm salsa of tomatoes, Taggiasca olives, Amalfi lemon, capers, and basil. Another summer plate, fresh and bright with just the right citrusy kick. Although they noted that the tuna could’ve been a touch pinker in the middle, that didn’t stop them from polishing it off.

I went for the Pollo Milanese, a classic done well. The chicken breast was thinly beaten, breaded and fried until golden, then topped with a tangle of rocket and a generous snowfall of grated Parmesan. It was everything I wanted: crisp but not greasy, with a tender, juicy centre. A comfort dish, yes – but with enough freshness to keep things light. On the side came proper chunky chips and vibrant broccoli, given a welcome lift with a generous scattering of Parmesan.

We accompanied our meal with a bottle of Novità Blush Pinot Grigio – pale in colour, fresh and fruity, and precisely the sort of easy-drinking wine that pairs perfectly with sunshine and good company. It slipped down far too easily.

Harrys' Toadstool

Dessert was never in doubt. We’d already clocked neighbouring tables tucking into elaborate sweet creations and weren’t going to miss out. First up: the famed Harry’s Toadstool. It arrived like something out of a fairytale – a delicate white chocolate toadstool perched on a bed of edible greenery. Inside, a dreamy mascarpone mousse, iced vanilla parfait, and pistachio biscotti crunch, all topped with a sprinkle of raspberries, are brought together with a warm pour of pistachio sauce. Playful, pretty, and indulgent – it’s the kind of dessert that turns heads.

Harry's Almalfi Lemon

Equally showstopping was Harry’s Amalfi Lemon, a masterclass in balance and texture: white chocolate and lemon cheesecake, crushed amaretti biscotti, tart Amalfi lemon sorbet, and clouds of toasted meringue. Refreshing, zesty, and just sharp enough to cut through the richness, it was a perfect palate cleanser and a rather elegant end to the meal.

Harry’s King’s Cross is the ideal place to pause, indulge, and enjoy a little slice of Italian escapism, whether you’re fresh off a train, meeting friends for lunch, or settling in for a long, glamorous dinner. With a great cocktail list (Negronis, naturally, but also a fun line-up of spritzes and house specials), attentive service, and a menu that dances between light bites and full-blown indulgence, it’s the kind of spot that makes every day dining feel just that bit more special. Come for the terrace, stay for the truffle pasta, and whatever you do, don’t skip dessert.
