STK – A modern high-quality steak house.

Situated in a prime location on London’s Strand,  STK is on the ground floor of the ME hotel.  Not a destination for the faint-hearted, it’s glitzy, glamorous and it really buzzes!

STK reception

Founded in the US, STK has thirteen restaurants stateside and several worldwide to its name, but this is its first UK venture.

STK

STK’s unique concept blends a contemporary superior quality steak house with a ritzy night club, and here on the Strand, there’s a DJ in residence from Tuesday night through to Saturday…perfect for a proper night on the town.

STK bar

On our visit, we received a friendly welcome at the  lit front desk before taking in the sleek, decadent lounge, an oasis of white leather banquettes, violet neon coloured lighting, glossy circular walnut tables, a glistening long central bar and music pumping out, giving it a real night club vibe.

STK

STK is a steak eater’s dream, and although there are several fish options on the menu, it’s definitely not the place for vegetarians. The American menu focuses on high-quality 28-day custom-aged USDA prime beef, it offers 11 different cuts including two new additions to the menu for the really hungry diner: a 750g Chateaubriand priced at £135 (for two to share) and a 900g Black Angus Tomahawk for £85!

We sat in the quieter area of the restaurant, (which suited us perfectly) and sank into the plush banquettes of our booth, and whilst we browsed the menu we also enjoyed a bit people watching.  The restaurant was busy with couples on romantic nights out dressed up to the nines and groups of friends out celebrating and enjoying the sense of occasion.

The service was excellent, attentive yet discreet. We started with a bottle of Planeta Etna 2018, a soft mineral white wine with a light citrus aroma and buttery vanilla notes.

STK - brioche bread

A magnificent blue cheese butter glazed brioche loaf with a scrumptious dip made of chives, garlic and olive oil, arrived at the table. It proved rather difficult not to overindulge in this tasty bread before the rest of the food came.

STK - raw Scottish salmon

Our starters ticked all the right boxes…from the raw bar, I had a delicious dish of tender, thick-cut, gin and tonic infused Scottish salmon with delightful dots of fresh cucumber and dill sauce and a scattering of crunchy soda bread croutons. The soft-shell crab sliders looked a lot of fun – perfectly fried crab in cute brioche buns dripping in a spicy wasabi remoulade sauce.

For mains I had the New York Strip 250g steak from the grill which was incredibly tender and full of flavour and complemented by a side of intense black truffle butter.

STK sirloin staek

My friend’s North Atlantic cod fillet was served with potato rosti, pea purée and tartare sauce, he described it as deconstructed fish and chips, which he enjoyed but thought it was a little on the dry side. However, STK is primarily a steak house so perhaps we can forgive them?

On the side, we had a delicious Caesar salad with crisp baby gem lettuce, plenty of egg, parmesan and chunks of toasted focaccia and some very indulgent parmesan French fries.

Pudding was a waistband bursting dish of sweet, rich delight – salted caramel pannacotta, with praline cream and a crunchy crumble.

Marvellously full and content we sat and soaked up the vibrant atmosphere before heading out into the night.

STK offers the perfect fine dining experience for meat lovers in super glamorous ambient surroundings. So, if you fancy a taste of the A list lifestyle, you know where to come.

Other steak restaurants we recommend include JW Steakhouse on Park Lane Mayfair, Smith and Wollensky and Goodman in Mayfair (we haven’t tried the other London branches)
