The Restaurant at Drakes Brighton – Review

Sophisticated seaside sustenance at Drakes Brighton: There’s something quite special about a boutique hotel with a good restaurant, especially when you love fine dining as much as me.  Having a mid-winter Brighton short break staying at Drakes, a top UK boutique hotel, I learnt that The Restaurant at Drakes had yet again received the highest score for […]

An unintentional fish fest in Brighton

An unintentional fish fest in Brighton

Feasting by the Sea in Brighton: Taking The-Hedonist as my companion for a trip to Brighton meant the trip was always going to end up as food-fest.  While I am easily tempted, he is happy to suggest culinary indulgences that are not for the faint-hearted.  With him I’ve lunched at Pollen Street Social, then gone […]

Brighton Revisited

Brighton Revisited

Brighton Rocked – a Short Trip to Brighton. It’s a short trip from London to Brighton.  The journey from London by train takes any visitor out from the City then south through suburban Croydon.  If you are lucky, the train will speed through the ugly dormitory towns of Surrey, stopping briefly at East Croydon and […]

Jamie’s Italian – Brighton – Review

Restaurant Review – Jamie’s Italian Brighton: The opportunity to review Jamie’s Italian in Brighton brought about uncharacteristic squeals of excitement from the junior Hedonist. His friends had told him that it had the ‘best chips ever’ so on a hot summer’s Saturday we headed down to the seaside to find out for ourselves. With cheery staff, […]

Yum Yum Ninja – Brighton at its Quirkiest Best

Yum Yum Ninja, Brighton –  Review; Brighton, My old University town, always fills me with nostalgia.  Memories of wandering through the Laines and the Parallels or along the beach in the early hours of the morning perhaps have something to do with that.  August probably isn’t the best time to be in Brighton, although the […]

The Grand Hotel Brighton – Fishy Frolics by the Sea

Getting Grand in Brighton – A Trip to the Seaside: The best way to reach Brighton from London , in my opinion, is by train.  Journey from Victoria through scruffy surburbia out to the rolling South Downs and as the train ambles across the historic  Victorian viaduct there’s growing excitement.  Even if the London you leave […]

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

    image

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
