Cultural News and Reviews - London

Huŏ opens in Belsize Park

October 5, 2025 (2025-10-05T10:48:00+01:00) by Madeleine Morrow Leave a Comment

Huo Belsize Village Thai green curry and Thai seabass

Visiting the Belsize Park branch of Huŏ at lunchtime on a Friday, a mere two weeks after it opened, it still had that out-of-the-box aroma of fresh wood. Despite being the new kid on the block amidst many established restaurants on Belsize Square, the restaurant had a steady stream of diners arriving throughout the lunch service. I suspect this Pan-Asian restaurant will prove popular. It has a light and airy atmosphere, pared-down yet elegant décor, an à la carte menu that covers many of the most popular Asian dishes, and a good value-for-money two-course offering at lunchtime.

UBA Restaurant, Shoreditch

The interior of UBA Shoreditch

Perhaps it’s symptomatic of multicultural London to take a Latvian chef, Pavel Baranovs, who started his career in a Japanese restaurant in Riga and set him up in the kitchen of the Hart Shoreditch Hotel, creating dishes for their Pan-Asian restaurant UBA. But it’s a testament to the hotel and to Pavel himself that what results is a delightful place with excellent and well-priced dishes in a glamorous and warm setting.

Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay view over London from table 22

Samuel Johnson’s famous adage, if you are tired of London then you must be tired of life, came back to me at Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay. If during this dark and cold month of February, you have grown tired of London, I have found a solution. Book a window-side table at the newly opened Lucky Cat at 22 Bishopsgate and the view will restore your affections.

The Ivy Asia, St Paul’s

At London Unattached, we’ve been busy trying out some of the capital’s finest dining spots with a view – I went along to The Ivy Asia St Paul’s for Sunday lunch with a friend, it’s an undeniable showstopper. Just a short walk from Bank Station, this stunning restaurant is perched with a front-row seat to St Paul’s Cathedral – one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

The impressive work in the kitchen shines through in every dish, meticulously assembled with care and showcasing an interesting approach to flavour combinations that beautifully blend the influences of Mexican taquerias with vibrant Asian character.

Bugis Sharing Platter 2

Pan-Asian Food with a Singaporean Twist in South Kensington. With plenty of exceptional Chinese restaurants in London, I was excited to try The Bugis Restaurant, a London destination that specialises in Singaporean and Malaysian food – one that might recreate some of those dishes from my childhood and more recent times in Singapore.  Street food […]

Asia-on-Thames Chef-restaurateur Peter Lloyd’s new flagship Southeast Asian restaurant Sticky Mango flew under the London Unattached radar when it opened in August so I was delighted to be asked to review this autumn The original Sticky Mango, which is still running, is in Waterloo on the South Bank. OKA Marylebone – Review

Truffled Salmon Roll at OKA restaurant Marylebone

Pan Asian and Sushi Restaurant in Marylebone. Indulging in Pan Asian cuisine at lunchtime almost feels excusable.  It is, after all, healthy… OKA is a small, independently owned group of restaurants scattered across London and the newest venue, in chi-chi Marylebone, was our destination for lunch the other day. Squeakily clean inside, with sanitiser on […]
