A hidden gem in Eccleston Yards, Belgravia
The Jones Family Kitchen is nestled away in Eccleston Yards, a wonderful leafy courtyard in Belgravia, five minutes walk from Victoria Station and close to Sloane Square. I love it when I discover a hidden gem, somewhere I’ve never been to before in London. This charming square is a great find with cool independent shops, wellness hubs and this fabulous restaurant which I had the pleasure of going to review.

Located on the corner of the courtyard, it boasts a spacious interior as well as a large terrace which is the ideal spot to enjoy the summer months ahead. The interior is remarkably warm and cosy with a modern funky feel and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the yard.

The chintzy dark floral wallpaper matches the banquettes and chairs, there are latticed screen dividers and the walls are hung with gold-rimmed sun mirrors and modern prints. This independent restaurant and bar is famed for its premium steaks, in 2019 they were listed as the Top Steakhouse in London by Steak Society. Their steaks are from grass-fed cattle, all dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days and sourced from the Ginger Pig and Aubrey Allen. And with fish from Flying Fish Seafoods in Cornwall, you know you’re in good hands.

The evening of our visit the restaurant was buzzing with happy customers, the atmosphere humming with soul and character, and staff were really friendly and helpful, in particular our charming waiter who guided us through the menu.

The cocktail menu offers an interesting range of classic and quirky cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I opted for a Lost Negroni a suitably sophisticated, well-blended combo of Hepple gin, Campari, and vermouth, whilst my companion chose an Eccleston Fizz, a refreshing and minty tipple, mixed with Ramsbury vodka, Pommery champagne, lemon and elderflower.

We began by tucking into some deliciously light and buttery pan-fried scallops with a tangy fennel and apple salsa verde. And, a salad with fresh, crisp ribbons of courgette and subtly sweet broad beans, with a rich creamy vegan cashew labneh.

We accompanied our meal with a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet, Domaine de Roquemoliere, Languedoc, dry and mineral with notes of apple and lime.

Next, a piping hot whole grilled and salted seabass arrived which had been partially cooked on the Josper grill. Beautifully presented on a wooden board, it was served with a well-dressed cherry tomato and peppery rocket salad and with a super spicy yellow tomato chutney… you have been warned!

With such a great reputation as a steak house, it seemed fitting to try one, and I can report that my sirloin was the most delicious steak I’ve had the pleasure of eating in a long time, beautifully charred on the outside, tender juicy on the inside. It was cooked perfectly to order and accompanied by a creamy peppercorn sauce. On the side, crisp and luxurious truffled fries and a rocket and parmesan salad.

And finally, to hit the sweet spot, (recommended by our waiter) a pretty, tangy lemon and sesame tart with a biscuit base, white chocolate and fluffy light meringue, served with tart lemon ice cream.

If you’re in Belgravia I can highly recommend taking the time to discover The Jones Family Kitchen. Along with serving high-quality heart-warming British food and drink it is set in a rather glorious location tucked away from the main street. It’s somewhere for those in the know – and I’m really glad to have joined that set!
