‘Wonderful hamburger’ is the English translation of the name of Victoria’s hippest new burger joint Hanbaagaasuuteeki, on Buckingham Palace Road a few steps away from some of the London’s most famous burger chains. ‘Suteeki’ in Japanese can also be translated as steak, showing how this new Asian-inspired burger restaurant is seeking to tap into the ‘steak hamburger’ trend popular in Japan.
Fire and Wine Sunday Lunch
Re-imagining the Sunday roast is a phrase that might not go down well with the traditionalists seeking roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. For everyone else, Fire and Wine is a wonderful mix of cosy vibes, good service, and a Sunday lunch menu that ticks all the boxes.

The Salusbury, Queens Park
Queen’s Park has long boasted a clutch of proper locals, but few carry the fond memories and weekend clatter of The Salusbury. Now reopened under the stewardship of Gareth Cooper, Alex Payne, and Jon Drape, the pub has been reimagined with a deft blend of restaurant polish, bar energy, and unpretentious pub soul.
Huŏ opens in Belsize Park
Visiting the Belsize Park branch of Huŏ at lunchtime on a Friday, a mere two weeks after it opened, it still had that out-of-the-box aroma of fresh wood. Despite being the new kid on the block amidst many established restaurants on Belsize Square, the restaurant had a steady stream of diners arriving throughout the lunch service. I suspect this Pan-Asian restaurant will prove popular. It has a light and airy atmosphere, pared-down yet elegant décor, an à la carte menu that covers many of the most popular Asian dishes, and a good value-for-money two-course offering at lunchtime.
The Victoria, Oxshott
On the edge of Oxshott village, in a pretty village setting close to the Surrey Hills, The Victoria is a welcoming country pub that combines traditional charm with a modern touch. Set against a backdrop of rolling countryside, it offers a relaxed atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared food and a well-curated selection of drinks.
Bottega 35 Kensington
Bottega 35 London: A Tuscan Feast for Kensington’s Tastemakers One of the discombobulating things about reviewing restaurants is the way new places open on the site of somewhere you are familiar with. The basic footprint may be the same, but everything else has changed. Some places I have reviewed have been through four or five […]
Sushi and Sake at Caviar House London
this is the kind of luxury that is both affordable and indulgent, discreet, and elegant. In short, it is something we would happily return for. Caviar House is the kind of place where it’s all too easy to walk past, but we agreed that it offers excellent value for money while still maintaining a luxurious edge. You can find branches of Caviar House on Picadilly and also in Selfridges. You’ll also find more branches around the world, from Paris to Hong Kong.
Maré Hove – New Restaurant Review
It’s not often a 2 Michelin-starred chef opens a restaurant in Brighton and Hove. So when we heard that Italian-Brazilian chef Rafael Cagali, the culinary force behind both Da Terra and the more casual Elis, both in Bethnal Green in East London, had opened the 36-cover Maré in Hove, we thought we ought to check it out.
