Take a short walk from the tourist draws of South Kensington into the heart of residential Chelsea and you’ll find Villa Mamas, a neighbourhood restaurant with an international reputation for food designed to feed the senses.
Enjoy your game at The Jugged Hare
London-unattached has previously expressed the team’s admiration for The Jugged Hare, the excellent game restaurant at the edge of the City, sitting conveniently across the road from London’s Barbican Arts Centre. As the evenings start to draw in and the salads of summer are replaced with autumn’s richer, comfort foods, don’t forget that late summer still offers many highlights. The question is, with the annual shooting season underway, are you game for grouse?
Berners Tavern – Saturday Brunch
Berners Tavern must be one of London’s most elegant dining rooms, making it a special place to spend Saturday over a good brunch with a glass of champagne or a Bloody Mary in hand. The restaurant is located at The London EDITION hotel on Berners Street in Fitzrovia. Its chef patron is Jason Atherton, whose other restaurants include the Michelin-starred City Social, as well as Social Eating House, The Blind Pig bar and Little Social.
Marcella – Deptford
Marcella is a perfect example of a modern neighbourhood Italian. A relation of Peckham’s popular Artusi, the Deptford outpost has been serving eager diners since opening in 2018.
Freak Scene X 100 Wardour St
Ex-Nobu Chef Scott Hallsworth is a ‘pan-Asian cooking pioneer’ with restaurants in Melbourne, St. Tropez, Bodrum, Jeddah, Zermatt, Chamonix, Nairobi, Cape Town, Toronto and London.
Moi Restaurant, Soho – Restaurant of the Month
Japanese Fire Meets London Flair at Moi Our restaurant of the month for August is Moi on Wardour Street, right in the heart of Soho. It’s the debut of MAD Restaurants, a new hospitality group founded by Artem Login with ex-Gordon Ramsey executive chef Andy Cook. Moi Restaurant is the first in MAD’s planned lineup, setting the tone for […]
Jacuzzi’s New Summer Menu
We first reviewed Italian restaurant Jacuzzi in early 2023 not long after it opened. It was our Restaurant of The Month and we were excited by its Bacchanalian theatricality which extends from its interiors through to the menu.
Noreen – St Christopher’s Place
Noreen bills itself as a “Middle Eastern oasis in the heart of Marylebone,” and the description isn’t far off. Tucked away in St Christopher’s Place, the newly opened restaurant (its name meaning “two lights” in Arabic) offers weary Oxford Street shoppers, as well as anyone in search of refined cooking, a welcome retreat.
Galvin La Chapelle – Taste of Summer in the City
Brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have been at the forefront of London’s dining scene for nearly two decades, known for a style of modern French cooking you will still find at Galvin La Chapelle, that marries classical technique with seasonal British produce. Both trained in some of the capital’s most exacting kitchens, and each earned Michelin recognition before joining forces: Chris at Orrery and Jeff at L’Escargot.
Game Season and the Jugged Hare
The Jugged Hare has long been one of my favourite London game restaurants. In the shadow of the brutalist Barbican Centre, it has the easy warmth of a country pub, and despite being in the heart of the City, it serves the kind of seasonal British produce that makes it a standout.
