Hawksmoor Sunday Roast

Hawksmoor Sunday Roast

There’s no beefing about this classic Sunday lunch How can we have gone so long without reviewing the Hawksmoor Sunday roast? It feels less like an oversight and more like something that needed the right occasion. The special occasion turned out to be my birthday, or at least the first Sunday after it. A very […]

Inside Wiltons’ Seafood Legacy: How a London Institution Keeps Its Edge Wiltons is a restaurant with a past so long and steady that it feels less like a business and more like a living narrative of London. Its history goes back to 1742, when George William Wilton sold oysters on the streets before moving into […]

Sushi and Sake at Caviar House London

Caviar House - Champagne and Caviar

this is the kind of luxury that is both affordable and indulgent, discreet, and elegant. In short, it is something we would happily return for. Caviar House is the kind of place where it’s all too easy to walk past, but we agreed that it offers excellent value for money while still maintaining a luxurious edge. You can find branches of Caviar House on Picadilly and also in Selfridges. You’ll also find more branches around the world, from Paris to Hong Kong.

Farzi Indian Restaurant, Haymarket

Farzi restaurant exterior

Tucked next to the Theatre Royal Haymarket and just a short walk from London’s West End, Farzi Indian Restaurant offers a well-placed stop for pre-theatre dining. When I visited to review the menu at 6pm., the restaurant was already lively, with diners settling in ahead of the evening’s shows.

Toba – St James’s

Good quality ingredients and cooking, some familiar and some unusual dishes all make for a good introduction to authentic Indonesian cooking at Toba

Restaurant of the Month – La Môme

La Môme interior 1

As consumers, we have to find the restaurants that suit our temperaments, budget and palate. La Môme is all about the scene and if you buy into that and can afford the bill then you will have a lovely time. It’s still a very new opening and I wonder if the Frères Lecorché have slightly underestimated Londoners’ openness to a more robust approach to flavouring. They seem like canny operators and will probably catch on. I

Albert’s Schloss

Albert's Schloss exterior

Albert’s Schloss is a Bavarian-style Bierkeller with entertainment on Shaftesbury Avenue in The Trocadero site that previously housed the execrable Rainforest Café. Named after Queen Victoria’s other half, the venue opened in July 2024 and is the fourth site bearing the brand, with the first one opening in Manchester in 2015, followed by Liverpool, Birmingham, and finally London.

Caviar House – Decadent Delights

Caviar House Prunier caviar

I love eating caviar, preferably off a mother-of-pearl spoon and with either a glass of champagne or a chilled vodka shot. If I could do it every day, I would. When the opportunity came up to review Caviar House on Piccadilly, just down from Green Park tube, it would have been ill-mannered to refuse.

A Return to Gaucho Piccadilly – Splendid Special Occasion Steak and More

Ancho - Ribeye steak at Gaucho Piccadilly

Now a classic, Gaucho Piccadilly still hits the spot In 1994, when Gaucho opened its first restaurant in Piccadilly, the London food scene was very different.  At the time I was working for an advertising agency and Gaucho Piccadilly was just the sort of place we’d take our top clients.  A unique venue, in the […]

Great Scotland Yard Hotel Picnic Basket and Spread

Great Scotland Yard Hotel offers the ultimate summer picnic  September is fast approaching, and dare I say it, so is the end of summer. But with the sunshine finally making its long-awaited appearance, there’s all the more reason to catch up on everything we missed during the drizzly months of June and July—particularly one of […]
