Climb the Tree – Safari Style Supper and Staycation
Experience the whimsical charm of a treehouse retreat without the birds and the bees at the Treehouse London nestled in Langham Place, Marylebone. It’s just across the street from the BBC and a stone’s throw away from Regent and Bond Streets. This quirky hotel rises 16 stories high, inviting you to rediscover the joys of childhood at dizzy heights.
I went along to explore their culinary and room package – an overnight stay and the chance to Climb The Tree, immersing yourself in all three of Treehouse’s dining outlets in one night.
Checking in at the Treehouse is a breeze, offering two convenient options: you can either utilise their app, which you can download before your stay, or opt for the traditional approach by heading to the 15th-floor reception via the lift, where you’ll be warmly greeted, as we were. Your playful journey begins right here, with sweetie jars lining the desk, inviting you to indulge whenever you please.
Our welcoming Lookout King room on the 11th floor boasted a spacious bay window with comfy seating, offering a magnificent London vista, the perfect spot for morning coffee. The room’s décor featured simple stone walls, warm wooden flooring, and a rustic wooden desk. Dotted around, a charming collection of nostalgic toys; a Paddington Bear, a canary yellow cuckoo clock, and a pink piggy bank. Fun cushions adorned the plush king-sized bed, complemented by a leather headboard and crisp white linens.
The contemporary-styled shower room is clad in white brick and marble tiles, exuding an uber-cool vibe, complete with tree trunks seamlessly integrated into the design. Here you’ll find complimentary bath products and cosy towelling robes. In the wardrobe, there is a safe, mini bar and coffee and tea-making facilities. There’s an integrated Smart TV and excellent Wifi. In the corridor, there are conveniently placed water stations allowing us to refill our water bottles — a thoughtful touch.
Come dinner time we were looking forward to embarking on the Climb The Tree dining experience. This fun concept allows you to eat at all three of the hotel’s distinctly different restaurants and bars throughout the evening. Pizzeria Mozza, Madera, and their bar, The Nest, perched on the 16th floor.
We began our adventure at Pizzeria Mozza on the ground floor of this prime corner site facing Langham Place. The atmosphere was buzzing with a happy crowd and radiating the vibrant essence of an Italian pizzeria.
The décor is bright and modern with zigzag brick floors, patterned columns, and kitsch ’60s globe lighting fixtures, set against a black industrial ceiling. There’s an eclectic mix of high and low tables, we sat at a marble-topped eating bar which encircled the pizza oven and offered a front-row view of the open-plan kitchen.
The ‘Climb the Tree’ menu offered the choice of an Aperol Spritz, a glass of wine, beer, or soft drink. With summer finally on its way, a refreshing Aperol Spritz seemed fitting.
There was a choice of four starters, we shared some crisp and light cauliflower fritti, with tasty, mildly spiced mint aioli, and Nancy’s chopped salad- a good mix of leaves, with salty strips of salami and provolone, soft textured chickpeas, and lots of oregano.
Next, we were off to the 15th floor, to immerse ourselves in the vibrant ambience of Madera, a Californian/Mexican bar restaurant, the little sister to Los Angeles-based Toca Mader, which is perched above the gorgeous spire of All Saints church below and boasts sweeping wrap-around city views.
The central square bar at Treehouse London is encircled by tree trunk columns draped in greenery, set against an authentic parquet floor. Completing the look are hanging wire and wicker lamps and matching chairs.
Once again you can choose your choice of drinks, with corn chips, a dip, and an order of tacos per person, plus a side of street corn to share. Our fabulous Toca Margaritas (a twist on a Tommy’s Margarita) were garnished with lime and charcoal, and packed with a tequila punch. Paired with Pico de gallo – tortilla crisps served with a fresh onion, tomato, and chilli dip, that along with pulsating house music, instantly transported us to Mexico.
The tacos were excellent. The slow-baked chicken in mixiote sauce, accompanied by grilled pineapple, habanero salsa, and pickled onion, was simply delicious. The sweet tang of pineapple paired perfectly with the sourness of lime, creating a delightful burst of flavours. The soft, warm taco filled with flavourful king prawns, marinated in garlic and lime, and topped with jalapeño, crunchy cabbage, smooth avocado, and fresh coriander was equally good.
Finally, we made our way up to the 16th Floor (each time friendly staff were there to assist) to The Nest which occupies the top floor and is open until 1 am, it offers spectacular 360-degree skyline views, and you can see many iconic London landmarks, including the London Eye, the Post Office Tower and The Shard.
This popular spot was rocking, with young people enjoying the clubby atmosphere and spilling onto the terraces to catch the views. Inside, a cosy lounge filled with sumptuous sofas and colourful rugs in natural materials and lots of green foliage.
Here we indulged in our desserts. The Nutty Passion offered a great combination of rich chocolate mousse with a peanut crunch, complemented by the sweetness and acidity of passion fruit jam, and the Citrus Zing – a light blood orange sponge enveloped in orange marmalade, served alongside a zingy lemon sorbet.
And more cocktails! A Negroni featuring Treehouse Gin with rose notes perfectly complements the Citrus Xing dessert. And Grounds for Divorce – a fabulous creation, reminiscent of a deconstructed White Russian, with a slightly sweet coffee flavour topped with whipped vegan cream.
After our lovely evening, returning to our cosy room just a few floors down was a joy. The next morning, breakfast was served in the Madera restaurant which looked bright and breezy in the light of the day.
The menu offered everything from fruits, pastries, and overnight oats to a full English breakfast and avocado on toast.
Washed down with fresh juice and coffee, it was a fitting end to our wonderful stay at The Treehouse.
