Small Plates and Special Wines at Vindinista:
Vindinista is an intimate neighbourhood wine bar situated in an up and coming area of Acton. It showcases small artisan producers and grapes, styles and regions that take are often unexpected but worth investigating. Owned by wine expert and blogger Paola Tich with a sister business, Off Licence Park and Bridge just over the road, Vindinista also has a menu of small plates and when you have finished your evening you can even buy a few of your favourite bottles to take home.
I started the evening with a Patagonian (who knew!) sparkling white made by the Methode Champenoise going by the name of Malma. The grape blend was Pinot Noir heavy giving it that characteristic light biscuity flavour. Perfect as an aperitif!
At this point some olives turned up, Salty with a cracked coriander seed crunch and well-matched by a chewy herby glass of Zenit, a Hungarian white. Zenit is both the name of wine and the grape it is similar to a Godelo though lighter-bodied.
Next up was Sex Drugs and Rock’n Roll, a German Riesling with a honeysuckle nose and an attractive balance of acidity and sweetness.
Made with Ogleshield cheese and bread from the local Marc bakery, the Nduja Spicy Sausage & Sunblush Tomato Toastie and Vindinista Awesome Cheese & Truffle Toastie were both delicious and perfect for soaking up the wine.
It was time to move on to some reds. A Bulgarian Pinot Noir going under the name of Soli was a light easy-drinking wine whereas the Ruché, again named after the grape, had a slightly tannic finish and notes of leather and tobacco. The reds went very well with a rather splendidly appointed cheeseboard with cheese from the Fine Cheese Company. A nutty Manchego was accompanied by a goaty Ticklemore and a creamy Ogelshield.
Cuvée des Galets was a Grenache Syrah blend which was figgy and sweet whilst the Framingham Montepulciano from New Zealand was a premium full-bodied red.
Dessert came in the form of tiny moreish salted caramel chocolate balls accompanied by a Ruby port that was verging on the tawny from Vila Nova de Gaia, a small artisanal producer.
Wine bars are all the rage now in the trendier corners of town. Acton is lucky to have Vindinista. A spot where locals can enjoy good wine at reasonable prices with some moreish small plates. It’s a good thing it’s not my local as I might never leave!
