The Ultimate Option for an Early Gatwick Flight

Do you groan when you discover the best flight option leaves at 6 a.m.? For many travellers, that early start means a restless night spent worrying whether the cab will arrive on time, or worse, oversleeping altogether. Drivers face their own concerns, and for both groups the simplest solution is often the same: book an airport hotel like Sofitel Gatwick North Terminal, which offers a particularly convenient option.

Sofitel Gatwick North Terminal - Atrium

At London Gatwick Airport, a short tunnel connects Sofitel Gatwick directly to the terminal, making it less than a five-minute walk from check-in. Even with luggage, the journey is straightforward. Once inside, guests step into an airy central atrium framed by the hotel’s towers, creating a sense of calm before the bustle of travel. Helpful staff are on hand to check you in and to take your luggage to your room if necessary, though I found the hotel well equipped with lifts.

Sofitel Gatwick North Terminal - Reception

Rooms vary in size, but all share a sense of understated luxury. Balmain toiletries, marble-lined showers, and a tea and coffee tray stocked with Jing teas set the tone. Practical touches include a safe, fridge, ironing board, hairdryer, and plentiful power and USB sockets. Beds are king-sized, the pillows suitably plump, and the crisp white linen soft against the skin. Oh, and the WiFi works without any hassle.

Facilities extend beyond the rooms. A compact gym sits on the lower ground floor, and a SIXT car-hire desk allows travellers to pick up or return vehicles without leaving the hotel or terminal. Dining options include three restaurants: Mediterranean-themed Vivre, the more casual La Terasse, and Vanda, a Pan-Asian venue that proves a highlight. These restaurants, all landside, are notably calmer than the average airport eatery and are all open to non-residents.

Seated quickly in the elegant surroundings of Vanda restaurant, I found that the service was slick and timely.

Sofitel Gatwick North - Champagne

At Vanda, a glass of champagne costs only marginally more than prosecco at £13, offering a rare opportunity for affordable pre-flight indulgence. It’s a much calmer place to indulge than airside, where you’ll pay considerably more for the treat, too. Convenient and comfortable, I fully intend to use Sofitel Gatwick North as an airport rendezvous in the future.

Chicken and Prawn Wonton soup - Vanda, Sofitel Gatwick North

The chicken and prawn wonton soup arrives light and aromatic, the perfect choice for an easy-to-digest starter.

The sizzling seafood platter combines a range of seafood, including prawns, mussels and squid, and vegetables with flair. A side of garlicky pak choi and steamed jasmine rice rounds out the meal.

There are plenty of alcoholic options to accompany the meal, from wine and spirits to beer, but after the champagne, I opt for green tea, intending to sleep better. It’s an excellent decision, the refreshing green tea is the perfect complement for the pan-Asian food at Vanda

The quality of the food leaves little room for regret, even if dessert must be skipped thanks to the generous portion sizes.

Shower at Sofitel Gatwick North Terminal

It’s easy enough to stagger back to my room for a quick but indulgent shower with those lovely Balmain toiletries, but I have a final task before bedtime. One significant benefit of staying overnight at Sofitel Gatwick North is access to twilight baggage check-in. Airlines such as EasyJet allow passengers to drop off hold luggage the evening before, saving valuable time the following morning. An extra hour or so in bed when you have a 6 am flight is priceless.

A restful night’s sleep, a reliable wake-up call, and effortless checkout complete the experience. Guests deposit their keycard before walking straight into the terminal without ever stepping outdoors. For anyone facing a dawn departure, Sofitel Gatwick North Terminal offers both peace of mind and a touch of comfort that makes the early start far easier to bear.

I flew from London Gatwick, making my journey smoother with Holiday Extras. Holiday Extras is the market leader in UK airport parking, hotels, lounges, and transfers – and last year its customers saved an average of £196 per trip by booking their airport parking in advance.  Booking Airport Parking and Lounge Access means you can enjoy a more relaxing holiday with less hassle. Plus, with Flextras, if you need to cancel or amend, you can do so without charge. One night at the Sofitel Gatwick North starts at £185 through Holiday Extras at the time of publication, including free cancellation.
