In the heart of the Latin Quarter in the 6^th arrondissement of Paris, Hôtel Dame des Arts is a chic, centrally located hotel, à deux pas from public transport, and within walking distance of almost every major sight and museum you may wish to visit. Its position on the Left Bank, in a triangle formed by the intersection of Boulevards Saint-Michel and Saint-Germain, makes it a short stroll to the Seine for walks along the Quais and also gives easy access to Notre-Dame Cathedral, which still draws crowds since its reopening in December 2024. Not only is it well-positioned for a trip to Paris, it also has a fabulous roof terrace bar with 360-degree views, a designer fitness room, spa treatment room, and sauna. You might never need to leave the hotel as it also boasts an in-house restaurant, Pimpan, where I enjoyed a terrific al fresco dinner in the courtyard garden.

Why stay in the 6^th arrondissement

I visit Paris regularly and have stayed in multiple arrondissements, but every time I return to stay in the 6^th, I’m reminded of why I love it. Yes, there are many tourists, but there is also nightlife in bars and cafes, restaurants are plentiful, as is fabulous shopping, whether you prefer gorgeous boutiques or high-end flagship stores. The area is also known for its cinemas, small galleries, and quaint antiquarian and book shops.  Many major museums, such as the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, and the Pompidou Centre, are within a 20-minute walk from the hotel. For those needing a breather in the outdoors, the Luxembourg Gardens is a 10-minute walk. Hôtel Dame des Arts is also conveniently located for those arriving by Eurostar, as there is an easy connection on the metro from Gare du Nord. On this occasion, I was leaving Paris from Gare de Lyon, and was in the station within half an hour of leaving Hôtel Dame des Arts. Of course, you can Uber or ask the hotel to arrange a taxi if you prefer.

When I visited Paris over New Year 2025, I attempted to see Notre Dame, which had only just reopened after the devastating fire of 2019. Mon dieu, the queues were endless and I gave up. While staying at the Hôtel Dame des Arts, not only could I see the Notre Dame towers from the Rooftop Bar of the hotel, but I was able to stroll over on a sunny afternoon and enjoy the interior too. Yes, there were still many tourists visiting, and there was a queue, but it moved very quickly.

Accommodation at Hôtel Dame des Arts

Hôtel Dame des Arts is a 4-star hotel with 109 rooms and suites distributed over eight floors. Once a Holiday Inn, the hotel opened in early 2023 after an extensive renovation. It was completely overhauled by Parisian-based designer Raphael Navot, who introduced sculptural furnishings using rich woods, bamboo, glass, and porcelain, and exciting contemporary lighting, as well as over 700 artworks with links to the St Germain neighbourhood. From the stylish lobby and reception area to the bedrooms, the hotel exudes elegance and luxury.

There is a range of room options at Hôtel Dame des Arts, from the Classic room to a Junior suite with a terrace and Eiffel Tower view. The rooms on the top two floors have terraces, so do bear that in mind while you are making a booking. Our attractively designed Signature room was located on the third floor, and, while bijoux, as is often the case in Paris, it had everything we needed, including a small desk, a bar fridge, and a tea and coffee-making tray. The en-suite bathroom, with luxurious Diptyque products, had elegant white tiles and contrasting black taps and features. This minimalist meets industrial aesthetic was very calming.

Facilities at Hôtel Dame des Arts

The hotel offers a comprehensive range of facilities, including a 24-hour fitness studio that features a beautifully designed curved wood ceiling and is equipped with handcrafted exercise equipment from NOHrD. Guests at Hôtel Dame des Arts can book a spa treatment and a private session in the hotel sauna. If you are in Paris on business, there is a stylish boardroom-style room, which converts into a cinema.

The hotel features a tranquil, oasis-type courtyard garden that is beautifully planted, complete with tables for dining and comfortable outdoor furnishings for relaxing with a book and a coffee. At night, it is well-lit for a romantic dinner.

The rooftop bar has an exceptional view, including the nearby Notre Dame, Central Paris below,  and in the distance Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur, and all the way to La Défense. Pride of place goes to the Eiffel Tower, behind which the sun set as we sipped cocktails. It is such a popular spot that one needs to make a reservation in advance. I visited the rooftop in the late afternoon, again at sunset, and finally at 11 pm, and it was constantly buzzing.

The rooftop bar has an exciting list of specialist cocktails and a few small plates to nibble on. I enjoyed my mocktail called Sole e Basta, which included verjus, green shiso honey, orange flower water, and cucumber tonic. My husband had a Spritz del Arte, which was a floral Aperol with the addition of mango liqueur, orange wine, rum, prosecco and verjus.

Dining at Hôtel des Dames

The in-house restaurant, Pimpan, is open from breakfast through to dinner. In the morning, breakfast is served buffet-style, where one can enjoy cheese and charcuterie, breads and viennoiserie, cereals, yoghurt, fruit salad, and juices. Table service is offered for hot drinks, while scrambled eggs are cooked to order with optional additions including mushrooms, spinach, onion, tomato, cheese, and ham. It is a plentiful spread.

You might well be out and about in the city at lunchtime, but if you are in the hotel, you can have lunch at Pimpan. I suggest you book yourself in for a dinner. We sat outdoors on the restaurant terrace. The tables were well spaced, and the service was friendly and helpful. The menu is compact with four starters, six mains and five desserts. There is also a 5-course taster option with two starters, two mains and one dàssert from the à la carte options. Unless you have any allergies or dislikes, the chef, Clément Courtemanche, chooses which of the dishes you will eat. It was fun trying to guess what dish might come next to the table. The wine list was, as to be expected in Paris, a tour through the wine regions of France with options of wines by the glass or bottle. There was also a list of specialist cocktails.

To start, we had a dish named Aubergine. A silky, smoked aubergine caviar was topped with tender pieces of sweet and sour aubergine, strips of preserved lemon, tiny croutons, pomegranate and sesame seeds, and a drizzle of Greek yoghurt: good flavours and textural contrast. ‘Bar’ was a seabass sashimi, slices of delicious and well-spiced fish served with tigre de leche sauce, confit cucumber and pomegranate. It was akin to a Nikkei dish with the fish seasoning introducing a spicy profile.

Our main dishes were one each of fish and meat. The turbot was well composed. A cream of corn on top of which was a finger of butter-poached halibut with pan-fried chanterelles, a grilled slice of baby corn and a few pieces of popcorn.  Veal picanha brought three slices of tender, pink, grilled veal with a tasty sear. It was presented along with zucchini, preserved lemon, fried capers and confit cucumber, all set above a rich jus. This was another delicious dish.

Dessert was a homemade black sesame ice cream with chocolate mousse, praline and cocoa tuilles. This was rich yet light and artfully presented.  

Some of my favourite small Parisian restaurants are located in the 6th, and I return to them no matter where I am staying. However, having discovered Pimpan, I would recommend booking a table here. I am often asked where friends should eat, and it is good to have another name to add to my list of restaurants in the 6^th. It is not often that I find an in-house restaurant that offers such an interesting and well-executed menu. I would happily book for dinner at Pimpan even if not staying at the hotel. Conveniently, it remains open on Sunday evenings when many restaurants close.

Hôtel Dame des Arts is a centrally-located hotel and in easy reach of most tourist sites in Paris. It is also easily accessible from the major train stations and within a few minutes walk of several metro stations; in fact, the closest is 50m from the front door. It is luxuriously elegant with beautiful public areas and a range of room choices. The rooftop bar has outstanding views, and the in-house restaurant, Pimpan, serves sophisticated and delicious food.
