Have you ever wondered about mattresses like Simba that you see being sold online?  I have to confess, I’ve only ever bought a mattress by going into a shop and trying it out, feeling rather silly in the process as I stretch out fully clothed!  The result is that I don’t change my mattress very often.  I bought my current bed around 25 years ago.  It’s a beautiful vintage Victorian brass bedstead that had been fully restored and came with a brand-new mattress.  But, it’s a small double (4ft wide) – bought to fit into a compact bedroom in the cottage I lived in at the time.  The size has grown in popularity but, when I got it, the mattress was a special order and I have been trying to put off replacing it because I thought it would be hard to get a mattress the right size without paying a fortune. 

When I discovered that Simba makes a whole range of mattress sizes, including small doubles, I was thrilled.  Exactly what I needed in many ways, but I was still unsure whether it would ‘work’ on a vintage sprung metal bed base.  The main advantage of the Simba mattress for me is that it is a Hybrid® – with a mix of special foam and a sprung base for support.  

Mine arrived super quickly – ordered on Friday and with me just four days later on Monday.  Working with AO, Simba can deliver quickly and easily across the whole UK, so you won’t wait for months!  Simba mattresses arrive in deceptively small boxes so they are relatively easy to install, but as I was by myself, I was glad that the delivery team brought it upstairs for me and unpacked it.  They also moved the old mattress to be stored while I checked that my new Simba Hybrid®  Original lived up to its promised comfort levels.  It fitted the bed perfectly though I wasn’t entirely sure how comfortable it would be as it looked a little ‘curled’ at the edge.  That turned out to be an issue of settling for a few hours.  By the time the bed was made up, it was level – and my first night’s sleep was blissfully comfortable.

The mattress comes with a special removable breathable cover which can be washed or replaced if necessary.  And, although I’ve had some problems with the memory foam mattress in my other bedroom, the Simba doesn’t overheat at all – in fact, it feels cooler than my old traditional sprung mattress.  They use a special open-cell Simbatex® foam to make sure that you get the best possible level of cooling airflow.  

I’ve also had no problem with rolling out of bed.  My current home is an old Victorian terrace and the floors are not totally level.  But, Simba manages to provide just the right amount of support.  It is a tried and tested model – and apparently, they have sold over half a million of them!  In any case, all Simba mattresses come with a  200-night trial so you can make sure you are really happy with the comfort levels.  And, there’s a 10-year guarantee on each Simba mattress!

One of the nicest features for me is that maintaining the mattress properly should be easy.  I’m used to having to turn my very heavy sprung mattress – and I can promise you that’s not easy for someone who is a little over 5ft tall!  The Simba is made up of layers – and you sleep on the top foam layer.  So, instead of flipping it, you rotate it.  It’s considerably lighter than my old sprung mattress too.  The mattresses are made in the UK with materials sourced from this country too – from zero-wast factories.  And, everything is 100% recyclable.  They will also take away your old mattress and recycle it.  They provide you with a massive ‘bin bag’ that you use to pack up your old mattress before it is collected and then it’s taken away for you by the same AO/Simba team who deliver.

Now, as I mentioned before, my new mattress is wonderfully comfortable.  I’m not the only member of the household who thinks that – Lulu has taken up almost permanent residence on my bed.
