The Relais Henley Hotel

October 25, 2025 (2025-10-25T16:36:48+01:00) by Madeleine Morrow Leave a Comment

The Relais Henley was the perfect base for enjoying the Henley Literature Festival. Located in a 16th-century Grade-II-listed building, the four-star hotel incorporates modern comforts into a historical property. History buffs will be interested to learn that the building housed the craftsmen who built the local St Mary’s Church in the 1530s. In 1632, it hosted King Charles I and later the first Duke of Wellington. Georgian times brought the addition of the brick façade, which exists today.

Villa Jetwing Wahawa Walauwa

Travelling in Sri Lanka, I’ve come to realise, is as much about where you stay as the landscapes you pass through. The country is scattered with quietly extraordinary places that seem to distil its spirit, and Jetwing Wahawa Walauwa is one of them. A walauwa is a grand ancestral home that once belonged to the local aristocracy. This 19th-century house has been lovingly restored into a boutique hotel.

Hotel Noucha, Paris

Located in the Auteuil quarter in the heart of Paris’ 16th Arrondissement, Hotel Noucha is a four-star, boutique hotel on a quiet street that has an important architectural history. Its  27 elegant rooms sport gorgeous fabrics and vintage furniture, and the hotel has an inviting rooftop terrace in addition to private balconies on the upper floors. Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk

Like many Londoners I’m a sucker for a country house retreat. And, you’ll find some of the finest country houses in England in East Anglia. Hintlesham Hall was built in the mid-16th century, with the core of the current building constructed around 1570. Now converted to a luxury hotel and restaurant, it’s a great example.

100 Princes Street, Edinburgh – Discrete and Luxurious

View from 100 Princes Street to the Castle

100 Princes Street has to be the quintessential Edinburgh address. Conceived as part of James Craig’s plans for Edinburgh New Town in the mid-18th century, Princes Street runs along what was once Nor Loch, a swampy body of water that separated Old and New Town. When the Nor Loch was drained, it was replaced with Princes Street Gardens, giving the street stunning open views to the South

With its laid-back luxury and deep connection to nature, it’s the kind of place where time slows down, worries fade, and you can’t help but breathe a little deeper.
