Cocktails from Islay – the Bruichladdich Stinging Scot and the Botantist Lava Lamp

Cocktails from Islay – the Bruichladdich Stinging Scot and the Botantist Lava Lamp

Two Cool Cocktails to keep you warm! I hate this time of year; it’s cold, dark, and more often than not, raining.  Whilst a hot toddie is a great antidote to the British weather, sometimes something more sophisticated is desired.   I have a small amount of Scottish heritage, one grandparent being a Mackenzie, and my […]

Solerno – the blood orange liqueur

Solerno – the blood orange liqueur

Cocktails with Solerno Liqueur: At the risk of sounding like an alcoholic, it’s rather fun to be sent a bottle of something new to try and to have a go at making up some new drinks.  So one dull Saturday evening we opened the very pretty bottle of Solerno and started to experiment.  I really […]

Tipplesworth Mixers – Making Christmas Easy

Tipplesworth cocktail mixers: Christmas – that time of year when we all celebrate, party, enjoy ourselves and, if we are not really careful, get burnt out trying our best to be unusual, innovative, interesting, creative and perfect.  Doing everything from scratch at Christmas seems obligatory – and yet it’s really not! For me, every little […]

Cocktails at Yauatcha – Soho and The Ned -City

Grey Goose Cocktails three ways… Yauatcha – Soho An evening experiencing the versatility of Grey Goose Vodka began at the stunningly cool cocktail bar, transformed from the once pastry room, sitting discreetly at the back of the equally stunning contemporary Chinese restaurant, Yauatcha. This modern, sleek blue-hued interior was once an old teahouse and provides […]

The St Pancras Renaissance – Belvedere Spritz and Spa

An Introduction to the St Pancras Renaissance and Belvedere Vodka. Although I work from home and enjoy a flexible lifestyle, I seldom take a full day out from work.  But, right now my house is full of builders who have been refurbishing the living room – the space directly above my study.  So, an invitation […]

Cocktail Mixing and Supper at Henry’s

Cocktail Mixing and Supper at Henry’s

Henry’s Cocktail Mixing Event: The two Henry’s Wine Bars (one in Green Park, the other Covent Garden) are fixed in my heart – regular haunts for me and a group of friends, we’d often meet up in one or other of the bars with grand plans to paint the town red.  And, generally after a […]

Trader Vic’s – an Institution on Park Lane

Trader Vic’s – an Institution on Park Lane

Malibu Cocktails at Trader Vic’s Trader Vic’s in the Hilton on Park Lane is an institution, roughly the same age as I am (although I can’t claim to be an institution!).  I do remember being wildly jealous of a friend of mine who got taken there when we were about 17 in 1979 (no ID […]

Tanqueray Number 10 gift set and a Summer Cocktail

Spirited Gifting with Alexander & James: You may remember that recently I was sent the Alexander & James Tanqueray No. 10 gift set to review as a potential gift for Father’s Day.  The set includes two special gin coupes and a litre bottle of premium gin. Everything arrived beautifully packaged so that it can be gifted […]

The Artistry of the Ultimate Gin & Tonic

The Artistry of the Ultimate Gin & Tonic

Bombay Sapphire at Harvey Nichols: It has to said, and there’s no denying it,  I have been known to make the odd G&T in my time!  So I did wonder what I would be learning at the masterclass at The Bombay Sapphire roof garden on the 5th Floor of Harvey Nichols.   Gin, tonic, ice and […]

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

    image

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
