A Restful Culinary Weekend Away After a blissful empty nest for a few years, the young adults are now back from university. We have, of course, missed them, but life has changed. Hintlesham Hall Hotel, a Suffolk Country Retreat

July 5, 2025 (2025-07-05T21:09:39+01:00) by Fiona Maclean Leave a Comment

Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk

Like many Londoners I’m a sucker for a country house retreat. And, you’ll find some of the finest country houses in England in East Anglia. Hintlesham Hall was built in the mid-16th century, with the core of the current building constructed around 1570. Now converted to a luxury hotel and restaurant, it’s a great example.

The Royal Forest, London’s Epping Forest Gem

February 16, 2025 (2025-02-16T20:42:31+00:00) by Sarah Trivuncic 2 Comments

The Royal Forest, Epping Forest, Heartwood Inns, sunny outdoor seating area with green chairs facing towards timber framed Tudor building, the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge.

With an elevated aspect, The Royal Forest, reopened in December 2024 by Heartwood Inns, was a diamond in the rough. Formerly a mundane Brewers Fayre, the 19th-century pub with rooms has been reinvented as an attractive mini-break destination. Here you can combine relaxed bathtub soaks with forest bathing, and it’s barely thirty-five minutes from Liverpool Street.
