Negroni Cocktail Recipe with Martini

I’ve been a fan of the Negroni for a long time; I’m not a fan of sweet cocktails at all, so the bitter alternatives offered by a Negroni cocktail as a pre-dinner Aperitivo is a frequent choice of mine,

I love the combination of bitters, gin and vermouth. The Negroni may well now be a traditional cocktail, but there is a reason why it is a classic.

One version of the story of the drink’s origin claims that it was invented at Caffe Casoni in Florence in 1919. The legend goes that Count Camillo Negroni asked the barman to make his Americano cocktail into something much more interesting.   Forsco Scarselli duly replaced the soda water with gin, and swapped lemon with an orange garnish, and hey presto, the Negroni was born. (A man after my own heart, I always make Pimm’s with sparkling wine rather than lemonade). Maybe Count Negroni got his taste for gin when he lived in London – it’s certainly rather fun to think that might be the case.Martini-Negroni-set2019 is going to be the year of the Negroni, so I was thrilled to be sent the perfect box of ingredients (and even a pair of glasses) to make my own Negroni cocktail at home.Martini glass for NegroniIt really couldn’t be simpler: 1 part of each of the components stirred over ice and garnished with a twist of orange. I have to say that I really liked the MARTINI Bitter 1892 in the Negroni. It had a greater depth of orange flavour and aroma than Campari, and was a little sweeter (but less sweet than Aperol); the herb element was delivered via the MARTINI Riserva Rubino.   So if you fancy trying your hand at our version of the Negroni, here’s the recipe – it’s best to get practising in good time for the year of the Negroni!

Sounds delicious, I’m a huge Campari fan so will have to give this a try. Also, I’d recommend becherovka to add a twist to a classic negroni

I only tried Negroni for the first time this summer. It now my new fave. Thanks for the recipe. I would so love to receive a gift box with all the ingredients- what a great idea. It would make a great present for my SO, who can mix me up a Negroni. Winners all round!

Love Negroni too! It’s one of the few cocktails I indulge in! I’d like to try it with the Martini bitters too!
