Gin and Ginger Cocktail for Christmas made with Brockmans Gin

Christmas eve is cocktail night in our household, so every year I’m on the lookout for a new festive cocktail, something aromatic that captures the spirit of Christmas. I recently received a bottle of Brockmans Gin, which comes in a beautifully dark and mysterious bottle, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do a trial run on my Christmas tipple  – this year a wonderfully spicy Gin and Ginger cocktail.
Brockmans GIn
Brockmans is an independent English gin company set up by the founding partners, including CEO Neil Everitt. Between them, they knocked up 60 years of experience in the drinks industry and plenty of knowledge about gin distillation. In their words, “The aim was to create a gin so smooth and sensual, you would want to drink it neat over ice”. This delicious English gin is bursting with aromatic botanicals, it is soft and rounded with refreshing notes of citrus and wild berries, blended with Bulgarian coriander, blackberries, blueberries, Tuscan juniper berries, and a touch of festive bitter-sweet, Valencian orange peel. Perfect for my Gin and Ginger Christmas cocktails.

Gin has come a long way since its humble beginnings. It was first produced in 1600 by a Dutch scientist who formulated juniper berry oil for medicinal purposes, but it tasted ghastly, so it was added to distilled spirit and botanicals to make it more palatable. However, it was so popular that illnesses soared as the masses tried to get their hands on this ‘genever’ which was only available in pharmacies. Some years later when the English troops were fighting alongside the Dutch in the Thirty Years’ War between 1618-1648 they noticed that the Dutch soldiers were especially courageous in battle. This was attributed to the calming effects of ‘genever’ which they sipped from small hip flasks. When the English troops returned home, they spread the word, and very soon the Dutch were distributing it all over the world.

Gin and ginger are a great combination and this drink is very easy and quick to make with just a few simple ingredients: Brockmans Gin, a premium ginger ale, and a jar of  Opies stem ginger.

An easy Christmas Gin Cocktail with Ginger

Ingredients
  • 50 ml Brockmans GIn
  • ice
  • Premium ginger ale
  • 1 slither Stem ginger
  • 3 blueberries
  • 1 wedge lime
Instructions
  1. Fill your chilled glass with large ice cubes. The larger the better so they don’t melt as fast and water down your drink.

  2. Pour over the gin.

  3. Add chilled premium ginger ale by pouring it down the length of a swizzle spoon onto the ice to keep the fizz.

  4. Garnish your Gin and Ginger cocktail with a slither of stem ginger and a wedge of lime.

Brockmans GIn & GInger
I used a jar of Opies stem ginger which is a great addition to any Christmas, my father used to eat a jar in one sitting! I also added a few blueberries and a wedge of lime to garnish. The soft warmth of stem ginger and the refreshing bite of ginger ale combines beautifully with the floral notes of the botanicals and the unique taste of this sensual Gin, it really does make a fabulous Christmassy cocktail.
