In search of the perfect pasta – Pasta Remoli, Finsbury Park
Founded by chef Simone Remoli with the aim of bringing fresh, authentic and homemade pasta to Londoners, it was a pleasure to be invited to Pasta Remoli’s Finsbury Park location. Situated a stone’s throw from the Finsbury Park station in North London, we enjoyed the opportunity to sample the menu and experience the original Roman flavours which chef Remoli seeks to bring from his native Italy to the British capital.
Previously working at some of the most prestigious culinary addresses in London’s European food scene such as Barrafina, Bocca di Lupo and Locanda Locatelli, Simone Remoli has opened several restaurants bearing his name in locations such as Finsbury Park, Ealing Broadway, Westfield Stratford and a takeaway only branch at St Pancras International.
For drinks, we enjoyed the coffee and honeycomb guest cocktail which was a creative combination of the sharpness of the cold brewed coffee and the sweetness of the buttery honeycomb. Non-alcoholic Italian favourite Crodino was a perfect aperitif and smartly served.

From the antipasti section of the menu, we particularly enjoyed the luxurious burrata cheese and Parma ham. Sourced from Puglia, the burrata was creamy and rich and we enjoyed the accompaniment of homemade focaccia. Other notable dishes from the antipasti section of the menu include favourites such as classic bruschetta and suppli al telefono rice balls, as well as twists on other classics such as Caprese in Carrozza – deep-fried buffalo mozzarella along with tomato and basil. The crostini with chicken liver is pan-fried with shallots, almonds and Marsala liquor.

Pasta Remoli does not offer a conventional pasta menu. Rather, diners can mix and match sauces, pasta shapes and cheese to create their own customised dish. The truffle and mushroom ravioli with sage and butter sauce, topped with parmesan, was intensely flavoured with the rich and savoury aroma of the truffle. The sage and butter sauce was smooth and indulgent, coating each piece of pasta. We also enjoyed the pancetta and creamy mushroom sauce with paccheri, also topped with parmesan. The creamy mushroom sauce was suitably light yet full of flavour and it was well complemented by the salty hits of pancetta.

Also available on the sauces menu is the meaty Tuscan pork sausage ragu, as well as the ‘ultimate Roman sauce’ Amamtriciana – a tomato base with guanciale and Pecorino Romano cheese melted inside. Familiar classics such as Arrabbiata are also available, and diners can also choose to enjoy fresh seafood and fresh prawn sauces. The menu also includes a section for Simone Remoli’s signature dishes. This section offers exciting options such as spicy fresh lobster, spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino, with the optional extra of fresh clams. On the pasta shapes section, Pasta Remoli offers a wide range of options, catering for a variety of preferences and dietary requirements. Diners can pick between fusilli, maccheroncini, tagliatelle, spaghetti, paccheri, gulten-free pasta, potato gnocchi, or wholewheat.
For dessert, we enjoyed Pasta Remoli’s creative tiramisu served in a glass along with a tasty and crunchy hazelnut cannoli.

In a modern and family-friendly setting, and conveniently located for public transport in North London’s Finsbury Park neighbourhood, Pasta Remoli is an excellent all-day dining option suitable for weekend lunches and evening meals.
