Tagine and Grill Zaalouk side dish - Sun and 13 Cantons

New Moroccan Residency Menu For Soho Pub Favourite Before the heatwave hit this week, I paid a virtual visit to Morocco via The Sun & 13 Cantons’ new permanent residency (is that a tautology?), Tagine and Grill. The Sun & 13 Cantons must surely be lodged firmly in every Londoner’s pub lexicon; it lies just […]

The-George-Drago-dining-room

The George & Dragon is part of the Heartwood Collection group founded by chef Raymond Blanc. The group also manages Brasserie Blanc restaurants, which bodes well for dinner! With 32 pubs and seven pubs with rooms, it’s a group that is expanding fast, its latest opening being The George & Dragon in Bouji Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

The Royal Forest, London’s Epping Forest Gem

February 16, 2025 (2025-02-16T20:42:31+00:00) by Sarah Trivuncic 2 Comments

The Royal Forest, Epping Forest, Heartwood Inns, sunny outdoor seating area with green chairs facing towards timber framed Tudor building, the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge.

With an elevated aspect, The Royal Forest, reopened in December 2024 by Heartwood Inns, was a diamond in the rough. Formerly a mundane Brewers Fayre, the 19th-century pub with rooms has been reinvented as an attractive mini-break destination. Here you can combine relaxed bathtub soaks with forest bathing, and it’s barely thirty-five minutes from Liverpool Street.

The Royal Oak - Hake with Monk's Beard

Marylebone Village – The Royal Oak Gastropub: Marylebone is one of those London ‘villages’ that many visitors miss, or if they do see some of it, it’s only because they visited Madame Tussauds’ and ventured to the other side of the road.   Despite being so central, a mere stone’s throw from Baker Street and […]

The Marquis Cornwallis – Food and Drink for the Bloomsbury Set

Marquis Cornwallis - cheesecake

The Perfect Bloomsbury Watering Hole – The Marquis Cornwallis: I find myself in Russell Square at least twice a month, sometimes twice a week, attending meetings in the University of London buildings.  In these meetings we attempt to workforce plan for the NHS, look at the education needs of the workforce, and enhance leadership capabilities […]

shepherds pie - candlemaker

Comfort at The Candlemaker, Battersea’s English Food Kitchen: Last Friday marked the end of an era for me.  I bought a small flat in West Kensington about 15 years ago.  For five years it was my own home, for a further six it housed my mother.  It was a time when she was deemed too […]
