Inspiration and Heritage at the Tate Modern Restaurant
While we all know the Tate Modern as London’s leading contemporary art gallery, it has a hidden treasure in the restaurant on the 6th floor of the main (Natalie Bell) building. What makes this place remarkable is the panoramic city views, with floor to wall windows offering fabulous views across the river to St Pauls and the City of London.

We went along to find out more about their current collaboration with Signature Brew, to celebrate the Mike Kelley: Ghost and Spirit exhibition

A special American theme menu to complement the limited release ‘Ready Made’ beer and a bespoke can designed by Steve Beech and inspired by Mike Kelley’s work will help to set the tone for the exhibition. Available for the on-trade and consumers until 31st March 2025, you can buy Ready Made online at £18 for 6 440ml, 3.4% cans – while the menu is available till 9 March 2025 when the exhibition ends.. The limited release hazy pale extra hoppy beer is stripped back and refined, pairing ‘sessionability’ with big hits of citrus flavour.

It’s the second collaboration between Signature Brew and Tate Modern, an exclusive partnership following the success of Riot Grrrl in 2023. Sam MxGregor, Signature Brew Co-Founder, comments
“Following on from the success of Riot Grrrl last year when we worked with the TATE on their Women in Revolt exhibition, we didn’t have to wait long until another perfect opportunity came along to work together. The inimitable work and unique style of Mike Kelley that gave so much to the musicians he worked with, has now inspired a new beer. Ready Made is our homage to Kelley’s work”

Ready Made is the second launch from the brewery’s exclusive partnership with the TATE following the success of Riot Grrrl in 2023. It is the latest addition to the Signature Brew collaboration line up that aims to create world-class beers through partnerships with artists, musicians and brands. Ready Made has been carefully crafted to draw on the spirit of found objects and the unexpected connections they create. Just as Kelley’s art explored identity, memory, and popular culture, Ready Made blends diverse elements to deliver a unique new beer.

The Hoppin’ John black eyed peas, kale and crispy corn grits above was one of the dishes specially created for the exhibition by The Tate Modern Restaurant. I was trying my best to avoid meat, so rather than the meat special, for our second main course, we picked the hake and celeriac in cider butter sauce.

On to the exhibition it was something of a surreal experience and a throwback to 20th-century contemporary art

I particularly loved the depictions of Kandor (the capital city of Superman’s home).

The exhibits did feel like a moment in time and a world that has all but vanished

People watching our way around the show I’d love to have known what some of the younger visitors thought of this provocative exhibition, which reflects on identity and on memories of events before they were born.

‘Mike Kelley: Ghost and Spirit’ runs until 9th March 2025 and is the first major UK exhibition for the American artist and musician.
The restaurant operates daily from 12:00 to 17:15, with the lunch menu available between 12:00 and 15:00, and a bar menu served from 12:00 to 17:00.
You can buy Ready Made online while stocks last at £18 for 6 440ml, 3.4% cans
