The Sussex, Soho Beef Wellington Experience

Beef Wellington Masterclass at The Sussex

How to Make (and Eat) a Beef Wellington For me, eating red meat is a bit like eating chocolate. I love both. I’m well aware that large quantities of either might not be a good idea. So, I pick my occasions and try to enjoy less but better. An invitation to learn how to make […]

Liverpool Street Chop House and Tavern

Chef Mike Reid and Martin Williams, CEO, The Evolv Collection at the Liverpool Street Chop House and Tavern

I’m planning to go back to the Liverpool Street Chop House and Tavern. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy excellent-quality, carefully prepared food, but it’s also where you might relax with friends or family. It’s unpretentious without losing any of the quality. A great reminder of the values that made the Conran group so great, it’s a return to the vision of simple, functional beauty.

Nessa Restaurant & Bar Soho

June 16, 2025 (2025-06-16T17:22:40+01:00) by Lucy Foxell Leave a Comment

Nessa (our restaurant of the month when it first opened) serves up a vibrant, informal modern British menu, seasonal and flame-cooked, with ingredients sourced from both Britain and just across the Channel.

The Exterior of Grumbles Restaurant, Pimlico

Nothing to grumble about here at Grumbles restaurant – classic British food with no frills, but good quality and well priced.  The setting is so quintessentially British it should be on the map for every visitor to London

Sael – Restaurant of the Month

September 22, 2024 (2024-09-22T10:55:06+01:00) by Dr Adrian York 2 Comments

Sael Restaurant Jason Atherton

Sael – the name is the old English for ‘seasonal’ – sits in St James’s Market just off the Haymarket. The site is owned by the Crown Estate and is housed within the contemporary St James’s Market development in the building that was D&D’s Scandi outpost Aquavit. It’s the contemporary West End equivalent of a Montparnasse brasserie, functional but stylish and still retaining the skeleton of Aquavit’s interior – the chandeliers, marble tiled flooring and industrial ceilings.

The Best Sunday Roast in London – Traditional, Tried and Tested

Whole Roast Chicken Whitcomb at the Londoner

The Best of British – Sunday Roast in Style While many of us now go out to find the best Sunday roast in London, I’m of the generation that grew up eating Sunday lunch as the day’s main meal at home. It’s a British classic popularised in Henry VIII’s reign. Served a little later than […]

Fallow Restaurant – Piccadilly – Review

Fallow - Souffle

A Permanent Home for a Favourite Pop-up – Fallow Restaurant Fallow Restaurant, a place we first visited when they re-opened their pop-up in Heddon Street, found a home in St James’s Market, just south of Piccadilly and more recently moved to Haymarket.  Our trip to Heddon Street was the result of the restaurant sharing their […]

Cod with Saffron Risotto - Bernardis Marylebone

Marylebone Village Restaurants – Gastronomy in the Heart of the City. Marylebone, like much of what is now London, really was a village.  Originally called Maryburne, after the stream that runs alongside St Mary’s church, it was surrounded by fields until the mid 18th Century.  Today it’s officially part of the City of Westminster, an […]

Gunmakers Pub and Restaurant, Marylebone – Review

Gunmakers restaurant - Hampshire Cross pork chop

Classic British fare in the heart of Marylebone Winston Churchill was a discerning man, who was notoriously known for his love of fine food and drink, therefore it’s of interest to know that one of his favoured haunts was the Gunmakers in Marylebone. He is quoted saying “I leave when the pub closes”. The Gunmakers […]

Caxton Grill at St Ermin’s Hotel – Review

Cheese Platter - Caxton Grill St Ermins Hotel

Caxton Grill – a Relaxed Dinner in Refined Setting St Ermin’s Hotel is a rather grand hotel with a lobby which always reminds me of a wedding cake, resplendent with white stucco plaster with a sweeping marble staircase running up the centre of the space.  Despite the grandeur though, it’s a remarkably accessible place, one […]
