Cultural News and Reviews - London

Via Emilia by Food Roots Notting Hill

February 3, 2026 (2026-02-03T20:31:16+00:00) by Lucy Foxell Leave a Comment

Notting Hill’s New Italian Spot for Handmade Pasta, Charcuterie and Wine Via Emilia by Food Roots has recently opened on All Saints Road in Notting Hill, joining its Shoreditch and Fitzrovia siblings. Moments from Portobello Market, the street has a rich cultural past and an unmistakable sense of character that today blends seamlessly with a […]

Sartoria Launceston Place

December 3, 2025 (2025-12-03T10:37:32+00:00) by Dr Adrian York Leave a Comment

This chi-chi locale has long been in need of a good quality neighbourhood restaurant. With a bar, breakfast opening and a weekday and Sunday lunch offer on top of the à la carte menu, Sartoria Launceston Place is well positioned to do just that.

Mele e Pere Soho

November 14, 2025 (2025-11-14T11:11:58+00:00) by Lucy Foxell Leave a Comment

It’s hard to believe this was my first visit to Mele e Pere, a Soho fixture on Brewer Street for 15 years. Still run by the same three brothers and their friend who founded it, the restaurant captures the warmth and authenticity of a family-run trattoria from northern Italy.

Emilia’s Crafted Pasta – Victoria

The exterior of Emilia's Crafted Pasta - Victoria

Authentic pasta that’s good for the soul and not hard on the wallet Victoria is Emilia’s Crafted Pasta’s newest restaurant; its fifth and largest, sitting 70 inside over two floors and 30 outside. Opened in August this year, it appears to be doing very well already. When we went early (6:15 pm) on a Thursday […]

Bottega 35 Kensington

Bottega 35 exterior

Bottega 35 London: A Tuscan Feast for Kensington’s Tastemakers One of the discombobulating things about reviewing restaurants is the way new places open on the site of somewhere you are familiar with. The basic footprint may be the same, but everything else has changed. Some places I have reviewed have been through four or five […]

Rottura: Italian Tradition Meets London Cool

September 10, 2025 (2025-09-10T09:19:50+01:00) by Dr Adrian York Leave a Comment

Rottura exterior

Opened by twin sisters Emily and Elena, Rottura is a year-old, family-owned Italian ‘Eatery’ in the new riverside Brentford Project development in West London. The restaurant’s name is a mash-up of both of their grandparents’ surnames, Frattura and Romano. With Italian parents from Avellino in Campania and a chef grandad the girls have a great backstory.

Marcella – Deptford

September 3, 2025 (2025-09-03T08:48:41+01:00) by Catherine Anderson Leave a Comment

Marcella is a perfect example of a modern neighbourhood Italian. A relation of Peckham’s popular Artusi, the Deptford outpost has been serving eager diners since opening in 2018.

Jacuzzi’s New Summer Menu

Exterior of Jacuzzi Restaurant, Kensington High Street

We first reviewed Italian restaurant Jacuzzi in early 2023 not long after it opened. It was our Restaurant of The Month and we were excited by its Bacchanalian theatricality which extends from its interiors through to the menu.

Macellaio RC Butchery Masterclass

The Head Chef at Macellaio RC explains the cuts

Enjoy your steak like a pro with this engaging and tasty masterclass. The slopes of the mountains of northern Italy may seem a world away from Shaftesbury Avenue, the bustling thoroughfare at the heart of London’s Soho. Macellaio RC, an Italian steakhouse with multiple locations across London, including Clerkenwell and Shaftesbury Avenue in Soho, holds […]

Barbarella – Canary Wharf – Restaurant of the Month

July 15, 2025 (2025-07-15T14:19:51+01:00) by Catherine Anderson Leave a Comment

Barbarella, Canary Wharf - Bar

Parisian restaurant group Big Mamma has opened another of its enjoyably OTT Italian trattorias, this time in Canary Wharf. It’s hard to believe that Gloria – the group’s first venture into the London scene – only opened in 2019. Since then, others have followed, each with its own signature look and ever-more instagrammable dishes.

Barbarella is the latest addition to the Big Mamma stable, and it’s London Unattached’s Restaurant of the Month for July.
