Corrigan’s Mayfair and Dickies Bar Review

Richard Corrigan’s Mayfair Restaurant – The Clatter of Forks and Spoons in a Fine Mayfair Setting: There are certain invitations which I know will be a real treat.  Having visited a few times in the past, for me Corrigan’s is one of the best restaurants in Mayfair.  It’s timeless, comfortable, elegant and inviting – somewhere […]

Park Chinois’ New Talent Tuesday

Mayfair Musical Soirées at Park Chinois: There’s not much I like more than a night out in the West End with great food and drink alongside some live music.Park Chinois, Mayfair’s premier restaurant and musical entertainment venue, has recently launched an all-new music night – New Talent Tuesdays – which plays host to emerging artists in a […]

Tsukiji Sushi at The Westbury Hotel Mayfair

Japanese Fine Dining in Mayfair – Tsukiji Sushi: I love Japanese food.  What’s not to enjoy – ultra fresh fish dishes, meltingly tender meat, perfect presentation and charming service?  I was thrilled, on my recent visit to The Westbury Hotel to be invited to review Tsukiji, the compact Japanese restaurant which is one of the […]

Five Star Luxury at The Westbury, Mayfair

A Mayfair Staycation – The Westbury Hotel: If only… There are parts of London, like Mayfair, where most of us can only aspire to live.  Even if you shop on Bond Street and take tea at Sketch, actually living in Mayfair is out of reach for most Londoners.  So, why not live the dream and […]

Picasso: Minotaurs and Matadors

REVIEW OF PICASSO: MINOTAURS AND MATADORS. Guest Post by Deborah Tarrant: Set in the modern gallery space of the Gagosian, tucked away in a corner of Mayfair,  the exhibition, in partnership with the artist’s grandson, Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, examines the intersection of Picasso’s bullfighting imagery with his mythological and biographical compositions of the 1930s.  There are also […]

Trader Vic’s – an Institution on Park Lane

Trader Vic’s – an Institution on Park Lane

Malibu Cocktails at Trader Vic’s Trader Vic’s in the Hilton on Park Lane is an institution, roughly the same age as I am (although I can’t claim to be an institution!).  I do remember being wildly jealous of a friend of mine who got taken there when we were about 17 in 1979 (no ID […]

An Historic Hotel on Park Lane London – Grosvenor House

Grosvenor House Hotel: A while ago I visited JW Steakhouse, one of the restaurants at the Grosvenor House Hotel.  Loving the food, I was intrigued by the placement of an American style steakhouse in one of Park Lane’s leading London Hotels.  A few weeks ago, I learnt more.  Invited to tour the hotel and learn […]

Frescobaldi, Mayfair London

Frescobaldi, Mayfair London

Ristorante Frescobaldi Mayfair – Review: A sense of history means different things in different places. In Italy the Frescobaldi family have been making winemakers since 1308; in a rather smart move they traded wine for art with Michelangelo and were even financiers to Henry VIII. In more recent times as well as being one of Italy’s great […]

Lanes of London, Mayfair

Lanes of London, Mayfair

Lanes of London – Park Lane’s Relaxed Bistro: Park Lane isn’t noted for well priced places to eat. Home to many of London’s finest hotels, for the most part those who chose to dine there do so in the knowledge that it won’t be a budget affair. So I was curious when I was invited […]

Afternoon Tea with Bunnies, Playboy Club, Mayfair

The Playboy Club, Mayfair – Afternoon Tea in Salvatore’s Bar: Did you know it’s Afternoon Tea week next week from 11th to 17th August.  In preparation I’ve been trying a few rather different afternoon teas and, much to my delight I was invited to the iconic Playboy Club where Salvatore’s Bar has just started serving […]

  • April 12th  - National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

The USA celebrates National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day on April 12th.   Well, why not?   Regarded as one of the top comfort foods in America, the version we eat today originated in the 1920s when sliced bread and American cheese became easily available.

    image

Of course, those of you from the USA and those of you wishing to join the celebrations can do so in London!  Head for the glamorous art-deco inspired Colony Grill at the Beaumont Hotel and you’ll find the menu offers a Grilled Cheese sandwich with Dill Pickle, perfect for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  While you are there, enjoy a cocktail or three - and perhaps a couple of other American classics - we love the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and perhaps Bananas Foster flambeed in dark rum for dessert.

    Enjoy!
